DUBSTEP BOOTLEG MASHUPS

Post by deckgeneral » Thu Aug 14, 2008 7:02 pm

Yesterday i was in London Record Shops and noticed a huge glut of dubstep remixes of reggae tunes..

I wondered in other genres, what tracks people would most like to see remixed as a dubstep tune, and indeed are there any that can simply be played at 33 and become an instant dubstep anthem?

There was a dubstep mix of Faithless - Insomnia which worked fairly well...

Jaybird and myself did a remix of Richie Spice's "Marijuana".

It's on my myspace page, check it out.

That Faithless thing by Benga is more of a remix. There is an amazing mashup, Loefah Vs Enya - Orinocco Stare/Goat Flow. A few top DJs were dropping it early this year but it's one of those lost dubs now.

I heard the master was lost though, so it may never get a full release which is a travesty.

this concept is pretty good with some tracks, but i think everyone went on overdrive with this it would ruin the novelty and just be boring.

this is one of them things where more is less.

quite a few bait remix/sample tunes i live. the insomnia one is the best one i think.

DnB had some HORRIBLE bootlegs, lets please not repeat that pattern. Leave Slayer and Metallica alone please ppl.

here is another i remembered:

Various Productions - The World Is Gone Ft. Cat Power [PROMO] - Various Productions

I think if they are done well

Post by deckgeneral » Sat Aug 16, 2008 10:44 pm

I think if the bootlegs are done well there is room for them in any scene, and indeed they were and have been prevalent in early hip hop scene, with Coldcut early boots, as well as the house scene Candi Staton / Franke Knuckles your Love..

The Dubstep scene should be no different and can provide some good drops if a bootleg is programmed right, the legal mix of Faithless by Benga, works incredibly well, and may attract people into the music who may have not heard it before.

But, and a big but, we do not need one million Hip Hop accapellas over dubstep anthems, or Missy Elliot.... EVER!

As a footnote i hear that the shadow dubs bootleg is really hard to get hold of does anyone know what it's like?
