SubFM connection a lil' dodgy?

Post by digitalia » Tue Jul 25, 2006 4:04 pm

been listening to SubFM all morning (10am on, EST North America) and it seems to cut out on me abit more than other stations. and when the buffer catchs back up, it seems to skip and "speed up" abit. anyone else experiencing this? using iTunes on OSX Tiger for the record...

not that big a deal, just wondered if i'm the only one. small inconvenience for getting to listen to some TOIGHT mixes all day!

peace,

I had trouble yesterday, tried all four connections, it was just playing a short loop of 5-10 minutes.

streaming 128 on a high-speed DSL connection (not sure the exact spec, but it's a business line). there's about a dozen comps on this network, not all hogging huge bandwidth, tho some of my workmates are obsessed with browsing youtube.com all day. still, my other regular stations don't seem to cut out as much, SubFM was doing so every 15-20 minutes pretty regularly today.

just FYI, if there's anything you need to do to sort things out abit. no criticism to the peeps in charge of the station - again, AWESOME job pumpin the choonz out to us.

Probably dodgy servers heat related! I know come summer time PCs act up a lot.

My computer over-heated just uploading to Barefiles and Barefiles itself has crashed so much recently. I blame the heat!

yeah, at work as well, and i cant get the listen or chat features to work:

javachat times out, i can get the error code if you want...

listen just tries to connect to the media, then goes back to the 'ready' state.

have tried all the different bit-rates, realplayer, mediaplayer, and VLC...pretty much tried everything in the FAQ.

dont think its a matter of bandwidth. could be blocked at our end though.

oh well...ima keep tryin.

yeh i think it might have been an overheating thing.
Everything is running smooth now.
but also for those peeps at work sometimes work networks dont like the stream (if u know the work "computer guy" ask them if they can help u out getting streaming media onto your comp ;)

i think this is might be that u need to d/l the newest version of Java, or its due to your network not allowing you to connect to the chat server

word, i'll try at home and see if its any better. could be java, but we get pushed the newest clients all the time...but surely there could be a conflict.

sounds like the network traffic is being blocked, but i can stream all day on other shit...usually they dont block any IPs over here unless they've had problems before. maybe there're some other dubsteppers here i dont know bout.

i've never been able to connect for more than 3 minutes to subfm without mad buffering. it's not my connection because the times i've tried at work have benn on a corporate t1 connection. I use mac tiger 10.4.7. i didnt want to bring this up earlier, but i guess other people have been having trouble.

this sounds like your network doesnt like the stream.
work networks often have firewalls against streams to stop employees using the internet for personal resaons.
if its not that, what program are u using to listen? iTunes?
have you tried the other streams? not just the 128? (have you had buffering on the 24k???)
if you are using the webpage with the player built in you have to use Internet Explorer
most odd :?:

bbc radio 1 streams fine from the same place, so it's not a firewall. i use realplayer. is the subfm bandwidth on a limiter?
