what would be the point of telling them to their face? as far as i can tell noones trying to insult any producers theyre just giving their opinion. youre not going to be able to have a discussion with various production about how various production are really overrated are you?
so why hide behind the comfort of the internet? this thread is three pages now...whats has been accomplished? where's the critique of various production?
Couldn't you argue this with the amount of 'big ups' in any given thread? It tells you that peeps like a certain producer but the majority wont give a detailed reason why. A lot of people simply dont look that deeply into it, they either like it or dont.

I'm really on the fence with this one. It doesnt bother me to read negative or positive posts, although I'd much rather people give reasons why they like or don't like something.

I personally find it very difficult to express why I like a certain tune so much....

It makes me laugh some times seein a thread abotu a tune and its like 5 pages long and all that is said is...

BIG

:o

heheh

I mean fair doo's people are gettin excited and all that, but it woudl be nice to hear peoples opinions on it. It puts off people from going in to the thread and sayin hang on a second this tune is a bit lame what you on about...

hehe

to be fair I aint that fussed

i'm not expecting people to do anything.

no ones saying you can't be critical. my point is, don't be a baby about it, and actually present something that resembles a critique. bring something to the table for discussion.

if you feel so strongly about having a platform to slate people, from the comfort of your armchair, start a blog.

we're a community here. would you stand in the middle of your street and tell your neighbors they were shit? of course not.

Gotta agree with Seckle on the point about trashing productions without giving an actual reason. People should step up with a real critique if they want their opinion heard.

Saying something is terrible just simply is not enough sometimes to describe how bad something is. Likewise saying "big up" or "tune!!!!" is not much more acceptable.

It would be nice to come here and read solid reviews for or against something.

initial post reads like someone on a windup

i don't think anyone, least of all VP would class their music as "dubstep" although it might appeal to people that like that music.

I bought Turn It Up / No Win No Fee 12" when it came out, cause i liked it. dirty, weird, unusual bass music.. doesn't need a genre name.

I didn't buy many of their other releases - have the LP but it's not really my cuppa.. just goes to show how diverse their style is. horses for courses.

i don't think you could compare it to any of the key "dubstep producers", so it's a pointless argument really.

I agree that there is no point in a post like this, constructive criticsm this is not.

However, this forum is ridiculously paranoidly (is that a word?) obsessed with slamming someone for any sort of negativity.

Every time I see a post titled something along the lines of this one, im like 'ere we go, theres gonna be at least 10 people getting emotional'

Allow the guy. If u think its a waste comment, move on. That way we can avoid all these generic arguments...

Yes, perhaps. It's a kind of mental tourrette's brought on by too many chillis. I promise it won't happen again... until my next visit to Kamal Singh's Super Spicy Bhaji & Dhansak Emporium.

OK! Constructive hatin go :!:
The Bug used to be pure gold, first album was really interestin.
The ambient type dancehall had a simplicity and direction which incorporated elements of downbeat electronica and singin that was propelled effortlessly by subtley changing percussion. The up beat tracks were mental! Major influence from industrial music (the God and Techno Animal days shining through), the beats were crushing, the sirens wailed like a city crying out for mercy, the bass stabs battered you about on a decent system. Frenzied ragga vocals over this minefield=Pure Win
Same with the razor x project, jaw dropping.

However the new album (which I copped on sight because of Bug Man's pedigree) has very little atmosphere, over produced and clean beats which sound pedestrian. A poppy sheen to the whole album. This doesn't help the vocal contributions which are often preachy and uninteresting. Flashes of brilliance with skeng, poison dart and jah war, but I couldn't help feeling that these didn't sound particularly unique.

The Bug has failed on producing an album with anywhere near the intensity of his two previous offerings.

Please tell me how debating music is insulting. Debate helps us learn from each other. As for seckle's argument of "you wouldn't say it to their face". That is neither here nor there and seems to be a very childish way of dismissing the validity of any criticism. Phewph :A:
I want my beats to sound like arrhythmia.

This makes me want to hear the older albums fo' sho' I agree that London Zoo is a bit shiney in places and that some of the vocals are a bit lame. I still love it mind, its one of my top albums of the year so far. Bellow people like Atlas Sound, No Age, FlyLo...

My mum even likes London Zoo so I think its doin a good job at bringin a new audiance to the scene.

Yeah it isn't a BAD album just nowhere near as good as his other two LP's which weren't just good but important records. My super high expectations meant that when I listened to london zoo I :baby: but it isn't that bad. All music is relative.
I want my beats to sound like arrhythmia.

That's constructive criticism, well written and pretty thoughtful. It has a point, whereas simply stating that 'The Bug Is Overrated' wouldn't have much of a point. Though McBread seems to understand why people jumped on him for his thread title so it's all good yah? I no longer think he's Epithet *cough* Breakstep slow is drum and bass *cough*
