that's true of virtually everything though. you're ignoring the fact that the games still give a great oppurtunity to athletes from all over the world that they wouldn't get otherwise

Yes, the athletes get to do things they wouldnt otherwsie but, that doest change what i said in the original post. Its a billion dollar playground for fascist corporations and corrupt governments. I'd like to see The Olympic franchise come apart at the seams. There are other ways for the athletic competition to happen.

Also, there may be other ways for this competition to happen, but i dont think nearly as many of the athletes who do get to compete would have the funding to train as hard as they do without the billions of corporate dollars donated by the sponsors. For example, United Airlines flys the entire US team and their families, coaches and trainers to the games for free. I know a lot of the lesser known / unknown athletes wouldnt have even been able to go due to the prohibitive cost of a flight to China, let alone the food, water, lodging, uniforms and the rest that are donated by various other corporations such as Nike, Addidas, and etc. The commerciallism of the games does suck, but really, look past that and enjoy it for what it is.. the best athletes in the world competing against one another.

And like badge said, really what in this world isnt tainted by commercialism?
