sooooo....
was watching the news last night and theres this article about how there's a great swathe of women democrats who are turning their backs on Barack Obama, and inteding to vote for McCain. The apparant rationale being that if they use their vote as a unified block it will demonstrate the power of the female vote.
now, much as i would like to see a woman in the white house, this strcuk me as totally militant. in fact i was shouting at the tv. I know alot of people don't seem to think it will make much of a difference if it's a democrat or a republican as president, but i feel differently. I don't know how these women can in good conscience abandon the plight of their nation in favour of some imagined (well that's how it seems to me) slight against them.
what dyall think.

i think that's typical of militant feminism tbh. not seeing the forest for the trees. surely picking a president should be about the right person for the job and not about either gender or race? to suggest otherwise is incredibly discriminatory if you ask meIkarai wrote:now, much as i would like to see a woman in the white house, this strcuk me as totally militant. in fact i was shouting at the tv. this is the exact sort of ridiculousness that makes lots of people lose a lot of respect for a movement that really should deserve it since it should be about equality, but in the end often proves to be more about women getting what they want at the expense of men
If your going to argue equal rights it should be for everyone. The moment you start talking about gay rights, black right, womens right etc then the whole issue gets confused. However, the feminist movement has its roots in a very good cause and its more than understandable that it came about.badger wrote:i know there are. i'm not going to censor what i say to please them just like they won't do the same for me
i'm all for feminism when it's about equality (and any form of equality) but a lot of the militant wing couldn't give a fuck about equality and are more concerned about discrimination
