Anyone here into breakcore/jungle/amen etc
Anyone here into breakcore/jungle/amen etc
Just curious 'cause I've noticed a number of events these days always sync up drum n bass & dubstep but not so much the more mental side of drum n bass (breakcore, jungle etc). Any thoughts?
The old stuff, Remarc, Kemet Crew, that sort of thing, is possibly my favourite single period of dance music history, but you can't go back. Yeah I might enjoy a Venetian Snares or Sound Murderer album, or a retro DJ set by Bizzy B or Luke Vibert at Bangface or wherever, even go to a breakcore night to get fucked up and work up a sweat - but it's never going to be any more than pastiche really, it can never get the tension of an old jungle rave or the insane invention that the producers achieved with so few ingredients.

I disagree - older jungle/drum and bass 95-97 stuff i think was being playe din the radio frequency tent at unity day and people where going mental - i think it was shock playing itJoe Muggs wrote:The old stuff, Remarc, Kemet Crew, that sort of thing, is possibly my favourite single period of dance music history, but you can't go back. blackmarket still plays alot of jungly tunes
not so much "jungle" but jungly sounding stuff
but being used to modern dnb
jungle seems so slow these days
but then again it still has that almost zoned out kinda kick back n move ur head to the beat kinda shit lol...fun
but ye agree, theres alot of dnb n dubstep raves together

There have been a number in the past which I've been too. Amen-tal in Norwich mix up the two as well as Braindrop & Yardcore do but I can't think of many others. Just like the idea of a more varied gig rather than it being all dubstep.djrobyn wrote:dj hidden is great, eye-d, too, the outside agency as well!!!![]()
it has always be a dream of mine to have a dubstep->dnb->breakcore party
I swear the bass downstairs at Amen-tal was the mother of all bass I've experienced - it was totally nuts!!
Breakcore is buzzin. Planet Mu pretty much introduced me to grime and dubstep. Seeing Mike Paradinas play a grime/dubstep set in 2005 and also the release of the seminal Vex'd album Degenerate opened my ears to a more bass driven, hypnotic kind of dance music. I think dubstep shares some elements with breakcore in terms of its experimental spirit and hideously dark atmospheres. Albeit in a more palatable form.
I'm not so interested in it now as I was mainly because it has become over saturated with shit. Too many producers of poor quality mask the interesting releases. Same thing is happening to dubstep methinx. Anyways there's still some mind boggling tunes out there. The latest Enduser offering is amazing.
I still listen to
Abelcain
Bong Ra
Aaron Spectre
Snares (Making Orange Thing
)
Karl Marx Stadt
etc...
I also need to get off me rump and put on a dubstep/nu skool jungle/breakcore night. Would bee phat.

I want my beats to sound like arrhythmia.
breakcore madness
hey yo! nice thread.
yeah, my first love was the amen-fuelled junglism of krome, time, doc scott, remarc, kemet, breakcage, ellis dee, brainkillers, hype etc.. lov all that. after that got heavily into breakcore - shitmat, v snares etc - with a bit of gabba thrown in for good measure - for a time!
used to play 5 hour jungle sets in gabba/breakcore clubs - as the 'chill out' room! ha ha!
i love you breakcore hedz.
i got old and tired so rarely go any more. all about the dubstep for me now.
BUT! saying that I am going to next BangFace cos MRK1 is playing! AND Phill Hartnoll - BAD lineup! Anyone else reppin at that?
Big up all the old skool junglism family. One love to the amen break!
awww.. i've got all sentimental...
(senti mental - that's a good dj name! why didn't i think of that years ago!)
