Believe it or not, Unfortunately there are still some white supremacists in this country which is really sad. There is still a kkk. which are bringing this country down a further hole. Racism i think is going to play a part in this election and who they vote for. Not that i am supporting that shit at all. Hell no. Its just disgraceful that this racism stuff still exists and people base their decisions off of it. Here this stuff is supposed to be gone and abolished. But no. Some people never realize the fact that this is the 21st century.pompende wrote:by all rights there is no way a republican should be able to win the election. Unfortunately theres a staggering number of asshole retards living in this country.Slim wrote:The republicans are on some early 19th century shit, how they are not getting laughed out of the country is ridiculous.
The thing is, while (at least from this side of the pond) things seem like obama is going to win by a landslide, i have a funny feeling we aren't getting the full picture and this is going to be quite close.
What's the opinion stateside?
...and those Diebold voting machines are trouble

Also, i have to throw this out as well. People still wear confederate flags over a hundred years after the civil war ended. And, the stuff that surrounded what they believed in back then i think over a hundred years later still influences people to do whatever they do today, including vote. There was this one kid i knew who wears a confederate flag belt buckle. Unless they take pride in their ancestors or just cant let go the fact that they lost.

Not a joke at all. And this was an issue that I was bringing up on this forum when I first got here with respect to Obama. I'll address it on the Hillary level.pompende wrote:is that joke? seriously?
the democratic primaries were completely fucked by this gender issue. barack didn't pick hilary coz too many people associate her with her husband. end of story.
die-hard hilary supporters need to let it go. they are BOTH good candidates compared to McCain, and if the Clinton camp hadn't started talking SO MUCH SHIT about obamma during the primaries, then maybe she would be in biden's place.
i would def prefer her to biden, btw. I think biden is a terrible choice and hilary would have been just as agood a pick to "fill in his resume"
Look. Telling people to "get over it. Look at the bigger picture," doesn't do shit when after the election, these people go back to their oppressed lives and continue to not matter. So as much as anyone has the right to say, "To me the obvious decision is to choose for Obama because he's the Way, the Truth, and the Light; and if you don't you're an idiot and you hate America," it doesn't invalidate anyone else's decision to what they want with their vote.
#1 It is our guaranteed right as an American citizen.
#2 It is our single most underused tool for protest.
If these women feel that their concerns are not being addressed, that their needs are overlooked, that they don't matter--how else should they discuss it? Try to pass a law, like the ERA? Try to get involved and more representation in superior positions, like Hilary?
See that get over it mentality got the dems in this spot. To deny the role sexism played in all arenas of the Democratic National Circus is to go blindly into another problem. Personally, I'm insulted that the republicans would go this far to try to sway votes. But I'm equally pissed off in the Democrats who refused to really address sexism in this election. This was a real opportunity for them to shine and they just didn't.
So the ladies get over it and vote Obama. And now the Nation is saved. Whats going to happen to the ladies now? Whats going to happen to their issues? Are people going to listen now that they've given their vote over for the greater good? Or is it more that once the vote is gained, we go back to status quo and the people feel snowed and further disenfranchised....
And if thats going to be the case, where people feel used by politicians just to further the progress of someone who is ultimately not going to give a shit about their concerns...what do they have to lose by voting their conscience? Why should they do as you ask?
Not saying I agree with it because that would not be my choice. But I don't think they're idiots either. I feel bad for those who feel it necessary to use their vote to protest this way*, both for what it will do to the Nation and for what the Nation did to them to drive them to that point.

I don't want to be sexist at all about this: The choice for VP for some women really disappointed them. I agree on that. I also agree she should of been chosen because of her credentials on certain world and US matters. But some women might feel let down for the reason because Barack Obama did not pick a female candidate for VP and solely for that matter. And some women feel offended. Now im confident that Barack did not pick Hillary Clinton not necessarily because of her gender, but for the reason of what he thinks would fill the gap for his inexperience. Do i agree on that choice? Not necessarily. Should she of been picked because of her experience? Yes. Also, i am not stating that women are ignorant at all. I feel that sex should not matter in regards to who is the running mate. Some group of people vote solely on a certain candidate because of a certain trait in them and it should not be that way at all. And not doing research on the matter really shows that specifically because those group of women were choosing to turn away and/or pick another candidate because of a woman was not picked for a potential VP. and towards the fact of why Biden was chosen and some groups assume with the whole VP matter. It shouldnt matter what race, religion, sex the people are. People should vote for who they think would be qualified for the position.
It made me mad that a John McCain commercial had a supposed former hillary supporter angry at barrack because Hillary was not chosen. I mean. It is what it is. Politcal commercials get on my nerves.

tbh whoever you pick, as long as you only vote democrat or republican, nothing is going to change, you country is founded on slavery, on the rich making money from the poor...this is mostly if not fully the responsibility of our country but that is beside the point. vote Obama vote McCain it is not going to make any real difference to anybody, inside or outside your country.
i dont think that obama is going to fix everything. and i DEFINITELY don't think hilary would have ended sexism.
thats my whole thing, really. obv neither of them can do what they promise. and if they could: why would it matter what gender they are? equality is equality.
surely there's no reason to think that obama has a misogynist agenda?

i mean, thats clearly true on some levels but on the immediate front there is the iraq war. a vote for mccain is a vote for the continuation of that war, a vote against mccain is a vote to end that war.eLBe wrote:tbh whoever you pick, as long as you only vote democrat or republican, nothing is going to change, you country is founded on slavery, on the rich making money from the poor...this is mostly if not fully the responsibility of our country but that is beside the point. vote Obama vote McCain it is not going to make any real difference to anybody, inside or outside your country.

I actually know many republicans. I've had right-wing students, I have a republican aunt and uncle and I have right-wing colleagues.
The fact is, just because "we don't know any" doesn't mean anything. They're there and they're pissed off. They're pissed because they're Catholics and Protestants, who feel that not one candidate represents them well; not dissimilar to the emotions many of you are expressing. Either that or they're wealthy (casually religious) and just plain don't trust Barack Obama
There is a divide in America, plain and simple. The divide exists, and is continuing to grow. Barack Obama spoke about that divide... and spoke well. That doesn't mean that they're going to vote for him.
I like Obama as a candidate muych more than McCain. Still, I don't particulalry agree with a lot of what he says (he was still touting drilling, nuclear power and war to some degree in his speech) but the man speaks from the heart. I like that. Passionate, young, and intelligent.
Nonetheless, I can't help the '6 of one, half dozen of the other' feeling. I was praying for John McCain to be the republican in office in 2000 and 2004. Back then, he looked like the 2nd coming of christ compared to the choice we had.
Anyway, it's going to be an interesting race. IMO McCain pulled an excellent maneuver picking a young woman as his candidate. Not dissimlar to how Obama picked an older man with a healthy length of records behind him.
They seem evenly matched.
