Skream & Benga & Coki & Mala & Caspa & R

Post by drama(urbannerds) » Sun Aug 31, 2008 6:09 am

Fellow Stepper's

I have decided we dont see enough of the larger names in the scene release's.

Is it just me but i swear there is a bag of tunes by Skream from his essential mix from 2007 that have and probably wont see the light of day?? Not to mention remixes that we all wont see...
I went to the Watch the Ride Album Launch the other night...It was a roaster and i gladly would say it was a sick night. BUT i didnt want a Skream Mix Compilation...I want the 2nd ALBUM or maybe Skreamizm 5
(any idea on that 1 anyone???????)

Benga the same, I saw an interview on the tinterweb thingy just the other month saying he had made some 50tunes for Diary of an Afro Warrior, and only picked about 15 of them for the shortlist...Will we see the other 35 as a release?? I doubt.

I know the scene doesnt need to be flooded with there releases but at least once a month some label/artist should throw out a decent release to show some love to the fans who are screaming for there releases.

I mean Rusko said that Babylon VOL2 would be released in Apr i swear...its Sept! I know he's busy but im sure everyone is the same about this one (Gaggin to get there grubbies on it)

Its something that frustrates me alot at the moment.

You can ask any number of these people for a track/s and you get little or no response, all but the obligatory.... its coming out ??/??/2050 or Sorry its not blah blah blah

You can offer money/favours and knowone wants to know.

I have been Djing all over the shot last few years in the hope id earn enuf points to get myself some fresh cuts from Skream or Benga or to be honest any tune which is a roaster, hot of the press at Transition(Which i must just add did a roasting job of my Dubs last month thanks lads)

Seriously am i the only person with this frustration?? What am i doing wrong in my approach to the for mentioned artists????

(I mean no disrespect to any of the artist i have mentioned, infact ive got nothing but respect for how you guys have built the scene, just would like a few doors opened now and then for the smaller guys clinging onto your coat tails)

if he picked the 15 best tunes, it's the best for us all, ain't it?

seriously. especially when it comes to skream: if you produce that much, you can't release every single tune. others have some problems with the samples to be cleared...

nah llow it.

holding back tunes (to an extent) and having a back catologue is what keeps the scene fresh.

its what keeps raves kicking, cos ders shit they will spin that u aint even heard, or if u heard it u KNOW its nt coming out.

it is what it is.

Thing is though, if you're REALLY into dubstep, as in, you follow the scene not the big names.. They're people who release stuff just as good as people stated above, if not better.

I can see what you're saying but I don't really think its a good thing..The later a big release say.......Babylon vol 2 comes out, the more it gives people a chance to look for those golden tunes floating around on labels you don't know about and then when the big releases come out, everyone goes out and buys that, batters it and bores everyone with it, then you draw for this golden tune you found randomly digging through record shops and people are like "Wtf was that tune"

Its all well and good wanting hundreds of skream releases but its not skreamstep is it? They push the scene by DJing and pushing newer artists, then keep the fans happy with a few releases here and there, it makes sense really!

I think its great the big releases come out in moderation, it keeps new people coming in, it keeps people waiting and builds up and when it drops it just murks the whole scene for a few weeks, even months plus if there was a release by benga/rusko/skream every month, you wouldn't hear those glorious dubplates at nights.

OH

If theres one top name who needs to release stuff every month..
It would be......

LOL

Ok it seems i have touched a slight nerve in the scene. Its a frustration i have because when i am playing out i constantly get asked for say Benga's insomnia remix, Skream Klaxon Remix, Filth, Rusko's Mr Chips, Moaners there are a million tunes i aint going to sit here and list them but u get my drift.
I dont want it to be Skream step as was quoted (i quite like this term, may use it when i can), I just wish some of the for mentioned artists would allow you just one tune now and then from there vast back catalogue especially when your a dj who regularly plays out and is getting requests for that tune.

Totally agree with the comment that it keeps the scene fresh, and also the comment that it makes u look for knew artists or that Golden track i think was the term.
I do do this, I have got a bag of lesser known artists or lesser publisised(allow spelling) artists beats who i use, Ashburner, Rob Sparxx (after Midnight tears it up), Clueless, Cast Iron, Buckfaster, Janner
I am diverse in my selection.. i am constantly scanning the net the forum myspace for newer artists who have the next stormer and i find a million of them...

Is there a fear from the larger names to sell a few back catalogue tunes to a lesser known dj?? I know it makes the scene less fresh but the amount of sick tunes being churned out weekly by every artist in the scen surely one a month wouldnt mess it up?
I use serato as well as Vinyl (Slowly making the shift) and getting MP3/Wav's is proper impossible sometimes i know that but surely its no skin off say Caspa's nose to say yes here you go have My pet monster, Thanks for the support. If the fans want it, its only exposure for him init???

The on artist who seems genuinley helpful in all matters i have addressed him on has been Plastician, he has always pointed me in the right direction to a track or thrown me a bone.

I do totally agree with the Kode 9 commetn, the man doesnt come with any where near the 2 releases per annum i would like..

bruv if ur a dj who is playin out to crowds, and der is demand for them kind of tunes the best thing u can do is get in contact with the producers and ask if u can have the beats to play out.

they will probably send u SOME (not all) 320s, n then as u do anyway u can go cut them yourself.

ye i get u.

well if u look at it from their perspective, they must have lots of ppl asking for tunes and they must be too busy to seperate the difference between heads they dont really know..

just keep at it man, cos if ur smashin raves they will eventually notice u and wen they know what ur about then they can maybe help u out wid tunes more.

You're not exactly a small time DJ so you should get something.

but for real, this scene is about being FORWARD thinking.

sitting back and bitching about skream not tossing you a copy of some dubplates is NOT forward thinking.

DJing is NOT enough in this scene.

everyone and their mother wants to DJ, wants to spin dubplates.

dude you are in LONDON especially, how saturated is the DJ scene out there? gotta be drippin!!!

so how about instead of bitching that benga wont throw you a copy of his latest dubplate, you make some tracks on your own, something that one of these big names would like to play out, and maybe you can work on a trade.

seriously, im not trying to be a dick and i know how hard it is to produce quality tracks, and believe me i have been trying, but dont just sit back and expect gifts to be thrown your way just cuz you DJ. start producing and giving back to the producers you constantly take from, and MAYBE you'll get what you want.

and the argument that you are giving them publicity is completely null when it comes to labels like tempa and deep medi/dmz

so yea,

bottom line,

START PRODUCING.

safe.
