Well it's not exactly going strong at the moment is it? There obviously is a lot of creativity still there, but we're not seeing much action. I do agree though, it's not really very fair to compare grime and dubstep all the time ..

It's a good thing. And as been said, they've done their homework.

But phrases like "this season's flavour of choice" say an awful lot about the way they treat music.

True of journalists everywhere.

trust me bruv grime record sales are going down hill on the regular mate, i work in a record store we used to sell about 40 % grime now we hardly stock it cos it just doesn't sell any more

It's not offensive, just a a bit of a gloss-over. I don't think dubstep was meant to be described in that compact, slightly bland way.

It should be more like "Fuck me sideways, the chest rattle on Haunted made me cough my weed up," or similar.

just made another post about all the gun talk in grime.

i think that is the reason grime is slowing down, especially ona global level... it certainly turns me off sometimes.

ona side note, gun talk and the "gangster" image is what made hiphop so commercial in america.

With the Tempa thing, you've got to remember it may not be the journalist's fault - it could have been dictated down the phone, dropped in by a busy subeditor, etc.

Isn't that because huge mix CDs (20 or 30 tracks, often an album's worth)
are being sold for 7 quid and making vinyl redundant..??

But I don't know how those sales are doing either - maybe it's all getting booted.

I don't think it's a problem if people care about something and therefore care how it's represented in the media. I think the natural condition is show an interest.

At the end of the day media coverage is going to shape the scene - it already has - and if this means more money for the artists and djs then i'm all up for being concerned about accurate representation.
