General Malice

(N20 Records | Freeburning, CA)

Fresh off his 43rd vinyl release, General Malice continues to pave the way for the Hardstep - Bboy jungle sound. Bringing to the table a combination of raw Hip Hop & Dancehall flavors mixed with hard crashing drums banged out on an MPC. Darkside drum and bass mixed with the soul & vibe of the oldskool. For years winning over crowds from LA to Tokyo and everywhere in between with his unique blend of mash-up showmanship and party bangers.

General Malice first began working with guitars, drum machines, synths, and turntables when he was 14. Slowly building his collection of studio gear and fine tuning his production techniques. At first experimenting with every style of music around, it was later the sounds of CRS?, R.A.W., ODG, Phantom 45, and Danny The Wildchild that turned him onto jungle/dnb. Cutting up futuristic beats and basslines with a hip hop aesthetic, ragga vocals and rnb hooks, the sound was completely unique and destroyed the party anytime it was dropped. Years in the lab had passed and Malice began to distribute a demo cd with 5 tracks (made on an MPC2000) which ended up being sold to N8LOC of legendary N2O fame. The dream was realized and Malice now had a premium outlet for his music. The first dubs pressed were being played exclusively by R.A.W & CRS in the beginning, building a demand for the fourthcoming releases on Big Cat Recordings (Japan). Big Cats 1-5 were received to critical acclaim, world-wide distribution, and entered the top ten figures on retailers like satelite records. Releases continued and it was time for a debut record on Los Angeless home of hot burners : N2O. Launch The Attack & Guns Like Mine were smashers that catapulted Malice into new territory, featuring an exclusive voicing by dancehall giant Wayne Marshall. Soon it was time to leave town for the 2003 N2O - Diss Da Program Tour , covering well over 20 dates and thousands of miles in the Navigator. Headling alongside R.A.W., Capital J, ODG, Dj 3D, Dj K, & Red Army, Malice took the opportunity to make his precense known and drop exclusive dubs left and right.

Throughout the last year Malice has begun a series of collaberations and remixes with world class rock groups such as : Slipknot, Linkin Park, Incubus, Hed (PE), Smorgas, & Skindred; Along with artists including : KRS-1 & DJ Priest, MURS, DJ Starscream, Wayne Marshall, Ambussh, Tyrone of 10th Planet, and many more to come. N2O just hit 70+ and will keep burning

General Malice is the true underground hero of the next generation of DIY producers that mash out the sounds of reggae/IDM/jungle/hip hop/ dancehall with fresh new concepts and club moshing agression. Think of General Malice as a darker roughneck version of Prefuse 73, or if Rise Against was more bass driven, or if Squarepusher had more radio anthem driven dancefloor killers, and that's where you will find General Malice's sound.

Bringing influences from the legendary Gangstarr, Kraftwerk, Slayer, Remarc, Ludacris, Ray Keith, DJ Shadow, Lee Perry, and Massive B, this young gun DJ+Producer rages hard and rough enough for the next sound with international all-star guests KRS-1, The NIPPS, General Jah Mikey, Spragga Benz, Cutty Ranks, MURS, and many more. It's punk fueled eletronica with a solid reggae & indie rock consistency. If IDM jungle/drum and bass were ever to break into cross-over mainstream, one would reference General Malice's "Final Takeover" album as being the "one that put it on the map." It is the first ever American reggae jungle mash-up album.

General Malice:

First of all I've got to say this is in my top 5 D&B performances PERIOD and I got the chance to thank him personally, it was really a treat and an honor to experience such a class act. As for the show, I walked in about 10 min into his set (had to pick up my business partner) there was a good vibe, about 40 people or so, good drinks, a few ladies out to have a good time. General Malice straight starts killing it, he really set the mood for the party. I didn't see a head in the room not bobbing,. A few freestyle dancer were doing their thing too, had to give them props, Then Junglez subs in...

Junglez:

Wow, this guy is talented. Siiick, sick set. Lots a good hardcore, very good sound quality. More people starting to get into when, with help from Alias, Trac and Legion the rhymes surfaced. This guys can really spit! Trac and Legion were cool as ever as they smoothly serenaded ill beats with fast, syncopated rhymes, which were good! not an easy thing to do. Alias' mic was a lil low at first but you could definately feel the difference when he got the mic back for the Enkryption set...

Enkryption Projekts:

DUBS DUBS DUBS DUBS!! A general gasp of "Oh shit!"'s sweeped the floor, but were quickly cover under the immense bass This is where the show got nutty. 50+ people all packed in this small room with the presence of alcohol, and sick dubs!! So many people were on stage, the whole fam, it was such a good vibe, I give these guys MAJOR props for that show and YES they are gonna take over the world. That only set the stage for 6Blocc

6Blocc:

La's finest, live in person. I was so pumped at this point, you have no idea. Illest, grimiest bass sounds, so original, so live, ah i can't believe how good this was. Alias got the mic for a little. That was the loudest the people got. Crazy to believe i could even hear the people over the sound of my "chest being knocked in". There must have been 70+ people at this point. The next hour was mixed with different member and family of the Jungle trading the mic around with 6blocc, Kae Sharp, and others switching the CDJs (they had the real shit too). crazyness, got a little distracted by a 24 year old, she thought i was foreign! LOL

Overall, 5/5, the best shit, mad chill, wish this went down every weekend. OH WAIT!! Lemme know if you went
where brooklyn at???
