i'm interested in getting some, upgrading from Alesis MK11 monitors...

http://www.krksys.com/product_rokit.php

the new shape design sounds interesting, but i'm still wondering whether this is a worthy upgrade

if peeps think not, an you suggest a better upgrade from Alesis MK11??

Depends on which you're wanting to get, dont get the RP5's for production, i have a pair of RP6's and they sound great, but if you're looking for bass, then id suggest the RP8's.

Are you on a budget, btw?, then id just go for the RP6's they are worth the money!! :P

i don't wanna sub in my house ( well i do but can't! )... so the RP8's would be the way forward for the bass response i guess, but just been checking the new mackie MR8's....same price, slightly ower bass response, but still aint sure!...

i could stretch the budget....

im using the RP5's, they are my first pair of moniters and i would recommend them for someone just starting out, but after a while you do start to notice the slightly-less-than-ideal bass responce. i am looking to get the RP10 sub to go with them. although with the lovely crisp, slightly agressive midrange responce really sounds good to me.

i have the RP5s and they sound really nice. silk tweeters and kevlar cones make for a warmish, more natural sound.

however, if i could have any monitors right now i would have yamaha NS1Ms.. but the HS80s are also pretty nice.

RP6 & SUB or JUST THE RP8's.

Best buy for your money, not best monitors just within that price range obviously lol

So these KRK monitors are good? I've just noticed a lot of people using them. I'm treading cautiously with my major monitor upgrade. Don't want to get anything just because everyone else has em.

What are the cons to the KRK's? Are your studios treated or not? Do they work well in certain types/shapes of rooms instead of others?

The KRK's are good for the price, but dont expect the flattest of responses, and are quite colored in the Hi Mids- Hi frequencies.

Better off saving a little longer and going for something like the Adam A5's or Genelec 820's. Not as much bass weight but more honest when mixing

a friend of mine recommended the alesis M1 actives over the KRK RP8's

he has worked in one of the biggest studios in town and I trust his judgement 100%

I however, love my event 20/20's had them for over 10 years now and had no issues whatsoever

the only thing i would say is that the M1s are very dark and the KRKs are brighter.. my buddy had M1s as well but he made like heavy/dark techno type music back in the day.. $.02 USD

Best advice I can give you is to take a CD to a shop like Turnkey where they will let you play your music on any of the speakers they have.

I have spent quite a lot of time in the one near me at work in the soundproof room having 1 of each speaker next to the other lol.

The KRK's did not impress me tbh. I think a lot of people are going for them because they look cool and they have a great marketing team.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

love the rokit8's, they're sick! i do use a sub however, it's just easier for me to monitor lows, even though the krk's are pretty bassy on their own. oh, and mine are the generation 1's, i'd imagine the g2's are even better. they do look kinda cool especially when the walls are melting. but you might wanna know that i found some webpage a while ago where some guy took them apart and exposed some shoddy manufacturing by krk (like messed up soldering and cheapish components i think), but that's probably why they're relatively inexpensive.

i've had them for i forget exactly, but for more than six months, and i still LOVE them, they're my babies. the 8's are loud as shit too. i got complaints a bunch of times when i first got them and was living in an apartment.
