Agreed. A year or two ago the beauty of Dubstep was that everyone still sounded different.

I call my sound "Mutant Bass."

Heh. :D

that's what i call it to people who don't know or care about terms like "dubstep"
I do the same without even thinking about it.

I just started reading computer music again. There is some interesting stuff in there. The dubstep issue, I am going to have to read it just so I know what NOT to do.

i just say "electrionic music" to be as broad as possible

i hate the term "dubstep" and all its connotations of white rastas drinking redstripe and taking ketamine to their favourite Caspa and Rusko tune in the midlands. Or even worse the Neon Nu Rave crew who are having a "wacky" time dancing to dubstep in Shoreditch according to their incessant facebook updates notifying us mere mortals of their ever so exciting, vibrant and privelidged lives.

No kidding. Nowadays within a "dubstep" set you can find a multitude of genres including techno, 2step, breakstep, breakbeats blah blah...

I am about over the term dubstep encompassing anything at 140bpm.

I like the idea of cross genres and the idea of terming my music "bass music" good call FSTZ.

Yeah, to be honest it half bothers me when the people who are making interesting music don't want to be associated with dubstep - it feels a bit like surrendering what could be a vibrant scene to the identikit wobble crew.

Btw, is this article actually out yet? I mean, for all we know it could have an analysis of an El-B tune, a sidebar on a range of different rhythms (from soca to two step) to try out and a load of stuff about the importance of developing your own style and finding your own influences...

I reckon it will. Computer Music are generally quite good at bringing lesser known and over looked elements into their mag. :)

if this article leads to someone better-understanding the process of programming, who gets really excited, works for a year, and then starts making banging tunes that magically appear in my inbox-- then it's all good.

they did a thing on d&b recently, which raised an eyebrow... until i read the first interview w/ logistics, in which he discussed inspiration (on one hand), and some pretty involved reason programming (on the other).

computer music does this type of shit pretty well.

funny how no one was crying woe for the scene w/ the benga vid posted a few months ago. how is this intrisically different?

if it gives someone with inspiration and a voice to develop a better clue on how to develop-- excellent. if not, the world hasn't died under the weight of 1,000 same-sounding 140bpm wobblers, and it's not gonna with a few more.

out to everyone makin tunes!
