basically Grooverider signed up loads of wicked tunes, but in the end Prototype released less than 10 records over the years, with him citing various reasons for not putting out everything he signed...

I think the case with Deep Medi is that Mala is one of the busiest DJs in dubstep - I'm sure it's hard enough trying to find enough time to write his own music, let alone having time to sort out releases for other people's too.

I have a feeling things will speed up over the next few months tho. :)

Oh....seen, get the point now but still, as ThinKing says, think about the sheer scale of Mala's DJ schedule then reconsider the post made.

And ThinKing, i like the sound of that last bit. :D

there's 8 releases planned (afaik)

Truth
Goth Trad
Breakage
Skream
Mala
Quest
Silkie
Moldy

not necessarily in that order, but I think Truth is next up and after that Goth Trad.

ok, sorta see what you mean now

i dunno about deep medi specifically but it does seem like a lot of the best material from the past year or two is yet to be released which is quite frustrating, esp as not much truly great stuff has been released for 6 months or so. Release more of your own tunes please mala!

i don't think many people have any idea how much work and scheduling goes into getting a 12" out and into the shops these days. remember that there's the scheduling at the mastering house, the cutting house and then the actual distro's to consider. that can be anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months at the moment. you don't clap your hands and produce 12" vinyl into the shops. its a long process.

Prototype was one of the finest DnB labels ever late 90's, Optical, Dillinja, Lemon D, but then it went a bit pear shape after he released that Bassline Smith tune....disgraceful!

Is he personally delivering these items, or is this not handled P&D style, meaning there is far less work for him to do?

He doesn't have to physically walk into transitions to get the tunes there. I know plenty of people this side of the pond who have a lot going on and releasing tunes. 9-5 jobs and never traveling.

I wonder if 8 releases in the pipeline isn't a bit much?

Add in the travelling to three different countries each week, managing your own bi-monthly event, trying to produce, going through new material...oh and then actually try having a life and dinner with the family you hardly see.

Guy is busy, give him a break.

I wasn't asking you. I was asking Seckle.

Doesn't have a manager to take care of bookings, eh?

I produce and listen to new tunes all the time. I go to school and have a job. I'm trying to get a label started with digital and vinyl releases and I'm currently shuffling through music at 7am my time. I don't travel to 3 Countries each week, but in all Honesty, neither does Mala most of the time. When Mala comes stateside, it's usually for a few weeks, not a one-off show, likewise when going to Asia, or staying in the UK... it's not like every week he's on the other side of the globe 52 weeks a year.

But assume for a second that everything you said is 100% true, my question still stands... isn't 8 releases a lot to have in the pipeline if you have no time to release tunes?

Who cares how many releases he plans to get out, if it doesnt happen so be it, its not such a big issue.

Just be happy mans trying to get the stuff out there i reckon.

it is frustrating as a buyer but you have to understand his predicament.

I've heard "just be happy" just be thankful, etc for the last couple days...

Complacency never solved a single problem, it usually caused more of them actually. Just be happy and buy on credit... just be happy and watch the economy tank... just be happy and file for unemployment... just be happy...

It's unfair to the people who produced those tunes for them to be sitting around and not get released. It's also bad for the tunes themselves to be played the hell out by every big name for over a year while mans gets around to working on a legitimate release. It's a sign of disrespect to hold out on a release that could take place on another label.

Like the original post was asking, is it not a bit waste?

I think so. I agreed with the original poster, yet somehow I'm out to cause shit?

I make a thread about how we could improve upon the forums and that was perceived as me saying there was a weakness. I'd rather see the tunes released in a timely manner than on any particular label. As a person who is trying to get a label up and running, I wouldn't mind being able to take a crack at releasing a tune from some of those producers, of course all their tunes are "forthcoming" for years on end...
How many tunes never see a release because they got played out by the time it was up for release?

Too damn many, that's how many.
