this... please answer this post and you'll have answered all of my questions as well.claw wrote:id be interested in what processing you do to the mp3s on a service like this...like what gear you actually run it thru, and how noticeable the difference is....like if you were to take a mp3 thats already been 'mastered' digitally, so its loud as can be and compressed and limited and eq'd completely before you got it....what difference would your service make in that case? would it be additional compression or eq, or are you just rerecording it back into a daw after passing thru a board/pre's ?

I kinda left this thread because it was turning into a digital versus analogue debate, phobang wrote:this... please answer this post and you'll have answered all of my questions as well.claw wrote:id be interested in what processing you do to the mp3s on a service like this...like what gear you actually run it thru, and how noticeable the difference is....like if you were to take a mp3 thats already been 'mastered' digitally, so its loud as can be and compressed and limited and eq'd completely before you got it....what difference would your service make in that case? would it be additional compression or eq, or are you just rerecording it back into a daw after passing thru a board/pre's ?
The proposed service would mean that the audio is passed through what ever piece of our equipment deemed necessary to get the sound required, This is the same process that is used for a Dubplate and a master.
Running a track through a piece of expensive analogue kit does not make much difference to a track if it has been badly mixed and or squashed, a limiter should be the last process (in some cases second to last but I am splitting hairs here) before mass production (cd or cutting the lacquer etc), Once it’s been maxxed David Blane couldn’t fix it.
This thread was never meant to be an advert for Transition just an opportunity to discus an idea with some potential customers.
We generally charge 35gbp per track for a full cd master which is cheap considering.............. But the proposed service would have to be cheaper than this and would be aimed at non vinyl playing dj's which is why if we go ahead with it we will probably deliver the final audio as an Mp3.It is not the same as mastering because of the time that will be spent on it,but as with a master if the mix stinks i will kick it back with a few pointers.
Hope this answers the questions
