Need help finding some dubstep similar to iTAL tEk,Boxcutter

Post by stashh » Thu Sep 18, 2008 6:51 pm

It seems like most of dubstep I come across is way too formulaic (unimaginative melodies and hard hitting wobble basslines... bass therapy with plenty of low frequency, but little creativity). I guess what I'm asking is, is there any dubstep you listen to that breaks this mold? "Glyphic" from Boxcutter and "Cyclical" from Ital Tek are two examples that come to mind.

Great ambient textures, unexpected progressions and emotional resonance is what I'm looking for with my dubstep. If anyone can feel what I'm talking about here, please help lead me in the right direction. Thanks for reading.

You might enjoy Vex'd. This set they did on Resonance FM is a little older, but it's dark, breaky, atmospheric, inspiring, and just plain amazing: http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t ... +resonance

Thanks. I have a Vex'd's (<---is that grammatically correct?!?!) "Degenerate", and it's an interesting listen (especially some of the break tracks on there) but it's not a particular favorite of mine. It's an amazing piece of production, but hate me for saying this, but its way similar many other dubstep tracks I've heard?

Maybe I'm alone here. :?

You've all helped immensely, thank you.

And Vaccine, my god, you make wonderful music, Fever has to be one of the best dubstep tracks I've heard in a while.

That made my day, thank you. I didn't want to be self-promoting in the earlier post...

This. Definately on an iTAL tEK tip, that's for sure. Absolutely filthy.

And Vaccine makes some of the deepest shit there is. I literally fell in love with Medicate with Bass Weight. It certainly kept me warm on those cold, dark early morning train rides to work in the deepest of winter.

Vaccine each and every time. Bias aside, she's on top of her game, and I can't wait until the LP is unleashed!

TBH, none of these are really anything like Boxcutter & iTAL tEK like the man requested. They're just all very "alternative". Not too sure about Ikonika at the mo though. Experimental as fuck, but not really feeling it. Pangaea is God and no-one does bass quite like Marlow. It's like listening to an earthquake!

May I also mention ScanOne and Nagual Sound Experiment (also not much like Boxcutter and iTal tEK, but everyone has their own style. That's what's so great about dubstep.)

Oh, and Milanese.
