There is a lot of people who are pissed off and politically active though. You dont need an entire population behind you to get things kick started.dreamizm wrote:The proles are too dumb/apathetic/segregated to revolt now or in the forseeable future.eLBe wrote:I would like to say that the future is socialist revolution and that these are just the beginning steps...

Lost middle-class tribe's 'secret' eco-village in Wales, snips:
"For five happy years they enjoyed simple lives in their straw and mud huts.
Generating their own power and growing their own food, they strived for self-sufficiency and thrived in homes that looked more suited to the hobbits from The Lord of the Rings.
Then a survey plane chanced upon the 'lost tribe'... and they were plunged into a decade-long battle with officialdom.
Yesterday that fight, backed by more modern support for green issues, ended in victory.
In 1998, it was spotted when sunlight was seen glinting off a solar panel on the main building, which was built from straw bales, timber and recycled glass.
When the pilot reported back, officials were unable to find any records, let alone planning permission, for the mystery hillside village surrounded by trees and bushes.
The 22 villagers fought planners even when they were within hours of the bulldozers moving in to demolish their eight homes.
Now, however, they can celebrate, thanks to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority's 'sustainability' policy."

so growing your own food and not driving, flying or cranking up the heating but having a laptop and a DVD
is no better than
driving a 4x4 to waitrose to get your israeli tomatoes and indonesian pineapples, taking two flights a month and ragging the underfloor heating in your apartment (whilst also having a laptop and a DVD)?
what a cop out!
at what point in the process of cleaning up your lifestyle do you stop being someone who is concerned about the environment and become a dirty hypocrite instead?
of course my statement was generalized. how could one make a comment about the current state of economic affairs in the western world and have it not be a generalization without writing a fucking book?
that aside, it's true that usually wars grow from economic hardships, and that sucks of course... but it seems like this is different, in the sense that america's "power" may finally be waning. i'd like to think some sort of major change will actually occur.
also, more specifically, how do you think this economic state, combined with the state of music sales, will affect our art?
is every dubstep producer going to have a blue period?

Here is my big concern - How do we exchange money if we are to reject stuff..?
I beleive that there is a huge glut of stuff right now - They want to know where the money is - It's sitting on the shelf of the Bed and Body in the form of a way overpriced designer scented candle - hundreds of thousends of them..
Now I like a fine scented candle - but exhorbidant price, plus the sheer number of them makes me feel lost in a sea of the unobtainable..they don't even have novelty working for them anymore...
I have these weird problems - for example..my mom buys me an antique carved agate ink well because she was somewhere and thought I would like it - and I do - but I'm like MOM - where am I going to put it? I live in one room and don't even have a table - nor do I want one as I will be crowded..so she gets mad because I am ingrateful - and I am angry because what good is an antique inkwell without a museum quality writing desk?
OH, the pretty green agate material....

what this world has seen is primarily two set of political institutions, both on the extreme side of the spectrum philisophically
-Communism
-Democracy
communism is best, but only on paper, give one person or one group of people dat much power and its bound to get corrupted
democracy is good in a short span, because it runs off of capitalism which is cut throat and a cancer to this earth (i think we can see the eefects of capitalism an democracy on the world today)
now if we want to change the world and truly make a difference in the long run a socio-democracy is the way, not too much power in the "ruler", not too much emphasis on the individual (which helps to lead to a break down of family and morality and values)
discuss,.......

none of these criticisms make any sense or have any validity at all. it's amusing somebody would take the time type something so reactionary and not thought-out.Mr Hyde wrote:setspeed wrote:eh?Mr Hyde wrote:also, stinks of hypocracy- as with pretty much all of these 'green' living types....its just a not in my back yard attitude- where do they get solar pannels from, computers, dvd's etc etc- huge mines and factories which need power, transport and all of the other secondary business and other things that make society run, wearing hemp and not washing isnt gonna change that.LEQ wrote:That story is interesting Parson, but when you get to the bits that read -

To respond to Miks:
Less work/less money/less vinyl acquisition.
I like your suggestion of more localized dj/minstrels
but they'll probably be playing 320s and their sets more determined by popularity than cutting edge or personal artistry...
...unless
producer/dj's form bigger crews so they can communally fund waste chip-oil tours.
