Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

yeaaah definatley, if you know youre gonna stick with it, drop some cash on some technics.Serox wrote:Technics are the ones. i bought my techs at about the same time my mate bought his stanton T60s (i think?) and even though mine were second hand from ebay, they are still going much stronger than the stantons!
plus if you dont take to mixing like you hope, youll be able to relist them on ebay and get most (if not all) of your money back!
mixer wise, if youre hard up for cash go for a cheap one, then buy a decent one when you have some money and your cheap one starts to crap out!
If you don't get Technics and get other decks, although it seems obvious to most, make sure you DONT buy any belt drive decks!
They suck ass, allways get direct drive
I personally think you shouldn't buy technics for your first ones, cause its quite alot of money for something your not sure your going to enjoy doing.
I'd say get some standard old direct drive numarks or sumin which will cost you like £140, then if you enjoy it get some better ones.

I started off on a pair of gemini xl IIs or some shit like that, learned to beat match on those finicky ass things and when you finally upgrade to techs as I did, it's like oh snap, all of a sudden I can get creative because mad amounts of time I spent trying to finesse the decks could now be spent on selection and mixer tactics. Techs are the way to go for me, and I don;t give a fuck about the + - 8 shit because let's face it you can find ways around it.
The thing about Technics turntables is that they don't lose their value, you can most likely sell them for the same price that you bought themHysteria wrote:If you don't get Technics and get other decks, although it seems obvious to most, make sure you DONT buy any belt drive decks!

Also, I have to agree about the belt-drive thing, I have one and it would be terrible for DJing. But I only use it for listening and it was $5 so I can't complain.

Not trying to be an asshole, but supposing you are starting your music/record collection now, do you think it makes sense to buy turntables?gambledub wrote:hey im kinda new to the whole dj'ing and mixing thing. i wanna get some turntables but i have no idea whats good or where to start. can anyone tell me what some good features to look for are, what i need etc?

Have to agree with everyone else technics all the way imo.
I just wish i would have bought some. But my theory is if you can mix on poor belt drive decks then imagine what you can do on some technics.

True say, but then i guess it depends if hes got the capital to buy them in the first place, aswell as having money for starting off a record collection, headphones, maybe decent speakers etc.glottis5 wrote:The thing about Technics turntables is that they don't lose their value, you can most likely sell them for the same price that you bought themHysteria wrote:If you don't get Technics and get other decks, although it seems obvious to most, make sure you DONT buy any belt drive decks!
