Its mostly beneficial for me - helps me hear melodies and rhythms in my head, and if I have something working the weed defo gets me excited about the music.

Only real problem I've ever had is smoking in the middle of the process if I've had a few beers and getting that uncomfortable physical feeling of being too high - really tough to slide quantize your drums when you feel like you should be laying down :o

All in moderation - lil wiz never hurt either

wouldn't say I need it to get in the zone, but I do enjoy a couple before I get going (or just spread it out for the whole session).

I either get that, or I just keep playing with the same settings and never actually make any progress.

but a zoot and a couple of cans of brew then having a mix is a niiiice level to be on.

I can't focus at all while I'm stoned on the computer. But, if I've been working on a tune for hours smoking a bowl to the last listen through or two of the night is the way to go. Turn off the monitor screen and just zone out. I prefer espresso or a few heavily hopped ales while I'm working.

It's all down to whatever floats your boat.
Personally, i used to have a smoke years ago when trying to make music, i remember being hypnotised by a loop and listening to things for ages thinking that they were the greatest sounds i'd ever heard.
Didn't do anything for my objectivity.

That and a Guiness Import Special.
Yes Bruv! Feeling that!

Most of our tracks are made under strict FF bunning guidelines. Id say 95% are made under the influence! :D

The other 5% is made when there's none about, and were smashed on lager instead.

We do make tunes sober, but prefer a zoot to get the creative juices flowing.

don't you think it's time to re-evaluate things if you can't write music without being stoned?

Smoke doesn't work for me but I've spent the last 20 hours making music on speed and really I didn't expect it would be so much fun. Maximum concentration, no sense of frustration. I learnt lots of things during the session.

I doubt that folks absolutely "can't" write music without being stoned - its just preference. And it makes it more fun. Beat-making is not a serious activity. Come off it.

I write, produce and mix pretty much all my tracks with a spliff going or a pipe burning. I find there's no difference from when I'm sober, except my conception of time fucks up when I'm stoned. I can sit for hours without moving, suddenly "wake up" and realise I haven't eaten, drunk or taken a piss for ages. I'm also pretty good at math when high... And I can lick my own elbow. But that's not because I'm high, that's because I'm hypermobile! And high!

i enjoy getting lean and making a song? yes mate i need to totally re-evaluate my life and morals.

sure i can make a tune not stoned, but it's not as fun and generally doesn't turn out as good.

I get random drug tests so no smoke for me. I do have an awful back, so daily prescribed hydrocodone intake is about 60mg. Don't think it helps with the tunes though.

I usually smoke when im writing tunes, I find it hard to get motivated and especially start a new track if i aint got no doob

I just moved out of a house where i had been living for a couple of months, i couldn't smoke inside and I hardly got any tracks writen,,

I have now moved into a new place where i can blaze till my hearts content, and i'm getting lots more done. Started bare new tracks

haha, check out everyone getting all defensive :D

i was talking to the man up there who said that he wasn't going to do any production cos he couldn't pick up. it's one thing getting a bit high then listening to music (one of life's great pleasures) but if it gets to the stage that you cannot be creative without it, then i reckon you need to nip that shit in the bud - no pun intended
