Beatport - bad mp3s?

Beatport - bad mp3s?
I had a question about mp3 shops.
Does the mastering or quality of a tune ever get compromised between producer and shop? There are a couple tunes (listed below) I recently bought that I have to completely blast the gain just to get to equal volume as the tunes I'm mixing them with. I want to say that I have numerous tunes by the producers that are mastered perfectly so I'm guessing it's something on beatports end. I wonder if I should even bother hitting beatport up to let them know. Another thing I found odd was with Caspa's "Where's My Money Remix". The tune I downloaded ends but there's still has about 1 minute of silence at the end of it. I made a mental note but it just seemed odd to me.

Depends on what the labels give 2 beatport - has nothing 2 do with beatport themselves they're not involved in any of the production side of things. Sounds like the label sent the unmastered version of the tune to beatport by accident or forgot to collect the final version of the tune from the mastering house.

Sorry whighzeguy, I wasn't having a pop at you son.
Well done for raising the issue tho' as sooner or later the majority of music will be bought and sold this way and it seems there's still no "industry standard" for the levels on MP3/WAV/LAME files. But this is also true with vinyl, sometimes you get a shitty pressing or a scratched/warped record - the difference is that in a physical record store you can choose whether or not you want to buy it (unless you receive it on mail-order) compared to most online stores which only give you a 30 second preview that you'd expect would reflect the quality of the whole track.

It's a joke really. I always make sure my tracks are sounding 100% crisp and are complete without any hops, skips jumps or any other stupidness. I listen to them 2-3 times carefully to make sure at the very lest.
Anyone releasing stuff digitally should fix the fuck up because it's not on. It's long for everyone involved.

Alot of labels simply supply the wavs they get from the vinyl mastering house which can't be as loud due to the levels used in cutting records.whighzeguy wrote:I had a question about mp3 shops.

I know for stuff on Tectonic, Earwax, Kapsize and Caravan - there is a separate digital mastering process which normally involves a bit more limiting of the masters to get them as loud as you'd expect if they were released on a cd.
Its a shame other labels aren't giving as much consideration to digital releases with the music industry in the state it is these days.
