Police probe nightclub shooting
Police investigating the murder of a teenager at a nightclub have renewed their appeal for witnesses to come forward.
Sharif Zaiden, 18, was shot on the dance floor at The Egg club in King's Cross, north London, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

At the time of the attack, about 200 people were inside celebrating its first year anniversary.

Police are looking for a light-skinned black male, about 6ft tall in his 20s.

He wore a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

Mr Zaiden, from Ladbroke Grove in west London, was shot three times. A post-mortem examination confirmed cause of death as a gun shot wound to the chest.

Terry Marnoch, DJ at the Egg Cup club in York Way, told BBC News the shooting happened during a private birthday party.

"People were running in all directions," he said. "It was chaotic."

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Brown said: "Sharif was with friends on a night out and at present we are still unable to say why someone would want to murder him."

Police are asking witnesses to contact them. They say the club, and the road outside, were very busy at the time, at about 0300 BST on Saturday.

first anniversary? i'm pretty sure i went there about three or four years ago. horrible venue, horrible area (down by the railway tracks, really deserted, etc). not hugely surprised. it's not even that it's that gully, it's just really mad max-y..

That's some sorry shit right there. Bet it was over fuck all as well. I can remember they did a metal detector test at the End years ago, don't know what the situation is nowadays.

Really not into heavy penalties for most crime as I think it's generally counter-productive, but firearms possession should be punished way more severely to stop this sort of shit happening (or at least discouraging it). Unfortunately it does seem that once the ante's been upped, it gets to be more necessary to carry the same weapons as your enemies though.

18's way too young to die. Feel very lucky I don't live around that culture, and very sorry for the kid's family and friends.

Never really understood why people went out for a fight after the pub, have absolutely no concept why someone would want to take a gun out to a club. Amazing bouncers will find the tiniest amount of drugs on occassion yet somehow miss a gun.

The Egg/Cross/Canvas/Keys have always been grim. Never had a good time at any of them.

And you're right about the first anniversary, they opened about 4 years ago.

Yeah, shows I don't go up there that often. Went to visit a friend in Highgate the other month, and she said that a lot of the worst element had moved further north (Camden, Holloway, etc), but then thinking about it a lot of Londoners seem to "bad" up their ends to make it sound like they're living in some circle of hell.

Had someone say this about St Paul's in Bristol, and then chatting to someone from there, they said it was only really a couple of blocks that were really shitty and the rest was OK. Mind you, another girl I knew went there to visit a student friend and some kids tried to grab her child saying "kill the baby, kill the baby", so fuck knows what to believe to be honest.

My point is i find it hard to beleive that people get assasinated for no reason. As you say mate, why would someone take a gun to a club (unless it was a hit?)

Sorry mate, was just joshing you. Makes me wonder whether the guy might have been a club dealer or something too, as he obviously managed to avoid the door search (or they just didn't bother, which would seem more unlikely in a club that seems to have a bit of a rude reputation).

Mind you I can remember chatting to someone in Brighton that was over in the states for business quite a bit, and he said that he'd managed to acquire a carbon fibre gun that didn't show up under metal detectors so that he could carry it on planes. This was way before 9/11, so it did make me wonder quite what the point of having a gun on a plane would be - as it's essentially a lot more dangerous if you miss and depressurise the cabin.

Just wondering from what you were saying though - if what the guy was saying was true - wouldn't that make it a bit easier to trace the killer and get him banged up before he does another? Just an idea mind..
