I mean maybe this is a glossy historical generalization but thats the way a scene functions in my eyes...

get a record player, blow 500$ on records with your credit card, rent a PA, throw a fucking house party and dispense weed brownies at the door - watch a scene materialize in front of your eyes

i been hooked with this music since i was in LA and made it to a dubstep party with Caspa and Breakage and the vibe was really dope
i would love to start something like that here, only thing is im not a promoter or deejay, i dont have any records or produce, im an animator and 3d artist filmmaker and im super super busy with my career, i dont sleep as it is. this music is already influencing my art, there is a movie in the works right now about ninja clans in miami that will feature all dubstep soundtrack, so i am making my contribution in my own way. im not lazy!! but as far as booking a venue and talent and promoting and materilizing a dubstep sound from this area theres no way

find at least one other person in miami who shares your passion.
start working with them.
there has to be a dj or two in miami that likes dubstep. work together with them. I mean damn ! miami bass!

@ hella savage... look at it this way, if you're an artist why don't you incorporate your work into a night, either help run a light show, or have your shit projecting on screens, visuals and sounds you know? collaborate with people - you can't go wrong with visual stimulation - esp. if those brownies are involved... maybe you have alot on your plate - but hustle is hustle, and hard work brings about rewards for those who presevere - you can't expect shit to just pop up from nothing - you have to make it happen

so yer not a dj? grab some really dope mixes that you think epitomize the best aspects of dubstep and burn em and hand em out for free! give em to djs, give em to clubbers, give em to promoters, give em to record stores. it doesn't have to be self-promotion for it to work. it's a slow burn kinda process, introducing a new "genre" (despite the fact that dubstep pulls from so many genres, i am always surprised that more people don't catch on faster), but it's fun!

hook up with a music journo in the area and do the same.

i know there's a record store in south beach (might be grooveman, can't remember) that carries dubstep vinyl (although mislabeled, to be sure). get them playing the shit in the store.

i guess it all depends on how much you wanna see it happen. i believe having non-dj types promoting the music is just as important, because then it's less self-promotion than just wanting to make shit happen. but too many times, non-djs/producers/promoters don't do this stuff BECAUSE they don't have a vested interest. so they are unwilling to put in the time it takes. no judgement there, it just...is.

last time i was down there, i mixed in the more breaky end of dubstep with techno, and people were going nutty. it just all depends on how you serve it to people who have never heard it before. i think it's tougher to showcase it at dnb nights than it is with techno, house and breaks because of the speed difference. so find some breaks djs and fill their heads...

Laundry Bar has had a few djs come thru and play dubstep, albeit with a DnB twist for sure as you will notice:

Breakage
Mayhem

T.S. Heritage
The Haunted Audio

Burn

I may be forgetting some names off this list...but the ones mentioned have all played dubstep @ Laundry Bar. Its interesting to see people's reactions because dubstep is still rare to hear out at an event here, but I think it will catch on and we are doing our best to include it regularly on the lineups at my events. The event on September 21st is our first 100% dubstep event. We have some big headliners lined up so keep an eye/ear out.

and unfortunately it failed. i held it at soho for two months, along with florida d&b, and it didn't make the numbers we wanted.

It's not really that hard. Just find a few Tampa heads who are DJing and get a free night going somewhere. Let it build up steam until you can start bringing some heads through

I suggest combining it with another genre as we have done in Atlanta. We had Dubstep in the lounge at our Drum + Bass night and got a lot of people hooked.
