nothing wrong with it for the consumer, easy imo ... but if you are the merchant, they take a good 2% of the sales and if you've already got a shopping cart like BM (which probably cost a bit in itself, merchant bank costs etc), then why bother adding new expense.

on the other hand if you are merchin on a small scale, artists selling their own albums for instance, it's great, no hassle, piss easy setup, secure shopping.

edit: just realised you're selling  ... note to self: read posts better

setup is easy. go to paypal.com, register, setup merch on website, get code from paypal that links to your account, post "buy now" button (comes in that code) on your site.

when a consumer hits that button, it goes to paypal secure site and they can use a creditcard etc, money goes right to the bank account # you gave them or stays in your paypal account, minus 2 %. done.

...just did a quick search around on pros and cons of paypal and it seems there's a few more cons than I'd like, so might set up one of those merchant accounts

not really into credit cards but no choice really...

... how else can you get money from one place to another simply, securely and fast, if you don't have one ???

guess merchant accounts the way to go ... never personally had a problem with paypal, but there you go.

checks in the mail  or money order I suppose.
some banks will let you write secure checks online ... they get sent straight from the bank, bunch of my clients use that.

that whole "checks in the mail thing" is a bit dodge though...

...how big is online banking in your countries ???

here in NZ we can do it all from a phone, the net and in some cases text messaging...

even got some foreigners to deposit straight into our acct for royalties fees on a trak i licnesed

...we're like a guinea pig country for all big brother technology

i pretty much never have any cash on me...

The reason people use paypal particularly small businesses and individuals instead of merchant accounts and custom checkout/baskets is because it's very difficult to get a merchant certificate and the costs of having a custom ordering system built are high (in the uk at least). I doubt you'll be able to get a merchant account but things may be different where you are based on the babylon-line

i use paypal for a cms service i run (plug: textgoeshere.com) and for selling albums (plug: sceretagentgel.com). there were and are a lot of horror stories posted around about paypal. the biggest thing they were guilty of is closing accounts and seizing monies with warning, based on any sort of complaint they might get from a user about you, and they're entitled according to their user agreement. so use it to receive funds and then transfer them out in a timely fashion. otherwise, i find their service great, easy and full of options for good integration.

if you need a free place to host an image securely so yr logo shows up in the paypal shopping cart, email me. doesn't cost me anything.

Beware chargebacks - my old man had about 3 grand held back for 18 months by Paypal (won't go into it). Hasten to add he was a legit seller.

Read up the pro's and (ahem) cons here - theyr'e not biased of course!

There's also some alternative methods listed there, plus some scam warnings to look out for.
