If you don't like something, slag it off in the comfort of your own mind, at least then you won't get peoples backs up who're not in the discussion, some of the greatest music ever made in my opinion is indie.. and it isn't all about skinny jeans and a hair cut, thats just your closed mind & being exposed to, too much music television.
Sorry I forgot about the choruses of shouting random words as loud as possible. Or how cool it is to be bi-sexual in the indie scene.

P.S. I don't watch TV. And know loads of indie rock people, so my aparent ignorance is based on real people. If you can call them people. More like testosterone-less scarecrow wearing tight jeans and tight leather jackets. homo? yes i think. And the music is the worst part

Sorry Junglist but to say that its only for homophobe. ass indie recording is laughable. Its an industry standard program for post production, music recording and production and a hell of a lot of audio-visual work too - which is also a major reason why i'm buying it as i'm trying to pursue a career as a dubbing mixer.

So the midi sequencer isnt amazing - Thats fine, i do most of my midi sequencing through reason anyway, i'm really going to be using pro tools to host the audio while i'm making the tune, then gona bang everything through some plugins to start beefing things up once the tunes sounding good.

It costs a bit yes thats true but i have worked with it for the past 3/4 years and would like to stay with a program i feel comfortable with - it may not be everyones cup of tea but i find that because i've worked with it for a wee while now i can use it to suit my needs pretty well.

For general production not creation pro tools is my favourite piece of software, the automation functions are very easy to use and control, the layout and shortcut keys are pretty useful and the plugins i have on my hard drive are all compatible with it.

If i was buying something SOLELY for making tunes then fair enough i might go with something else. However i want to be doing some audio for visual work, start building up a bit of a portfolio to send off to the trendo stnuc that work in the post production industry - Seeing as i've spent a few years using the program i may as well continue with it especially seeing as i quite enjoy using it and the better i get on it will increase my chances of getting a job as it is the most widely used program for post work.

Anyway, looking back on my question - Junglist, i have been told to wait for pro tools 8 by other people too but i really am the shittest saver ever so its now or never or its just gona get blazed on skunk and charlie. Think i'm definitely going to go for the fast track pro card and pro tools mpowered and hopefully get a free upgrade to 8 (not sure about that though, think they might only give the free upgrades to the point something versions).

buy the 7.4 version now, and don't enter the information (serial number... etc) into the digidesign website Wait a while and then do it. Apparently if you enter it after ver 8.0 has been released you'll get a free upgrade rather than forking out £90 extra for the upgrade. That's what I was told by a certified pro tools 'expert'. However i'm not 100% sure on this as this may just be the case for students.

I have yet to try it out as I havn't entered my 7.4 info yet.

We'll I've got:
Reason 3
Albeton Live Lite
Pro Tools 7.4 LE
Logic Pro 8
Acid Pro 6
Magix

But I use mainly logic pro 8 on Mac, and Acid Pro 6 on Windows. And to be perfectly honest with you I've kind of moved away from dubstep to work on Techstep recently. Although I should be releasing a jungle remix soon that will be on Beatport. As far as my other work goes, nothing I particularly want to show because most of my tunes are in a dire state, most comprising of 16 bars of finished sound with no attempt at proper composition of the track, or work in progress that still needs some heavy quality control.
Although i'm doing the DSF 7.0 competition so you'll get a chance to hear my stuff then.

so basically you're not finishing any dubstep tracks with reason 3, ableton live, Logic, Acid, Magix or pro tools with your mac and pc? Yet you have the expertise to tell other people what's a shit program for making a dubstep track, when you have multiple programs good enough by themselves to make a dubstep track and have nothing to show for it?

No. I used Magix for over a year when I first got into producing and used it to make allot of Drum & Bass. I also use Reason 3 quite a bit but use Logic and Acid Pro as my main sequencers. I also use Pro Tools to edit samples and clips, and as for having nothing to show for it, I have made loads of tracks across multiple genres however I am the type of person who always likes to tweek and tweek away. Therefore I have yet to get a tune to a stage where I think it is 'finished' and ready to be mastered. Just because I am not going to link you up to my work does not mean that I (in your words) "have nothing to show for it." Because I do, just nothing to show you, a person who appears to be out for blood. Because if I look back over this thread you can see that the my little rant about Pro Tools has ended. As had the main question which only I answered to any questionable standard and expertise. So what are you trying to get at?

And yes I do have the expertise because I have used every one of the programs listed for at least a good 20 - 25 hours minimum, if not into the hundreds of hours range.

when did I make an opinion, everything I said was fact. You told me you used those programs. You said you had no songs you wanted to show. You are telling people that Pro tools is shit for electronic music, but you can't even prove that you're capable of making dubstep with any program. Yet you still say you are an "expert" at all of them.

Maybe that's your opinion, and you're entitle to it. However i'm not going to loose any sleep over it because it's your opinion and all you realy know about me is a list of programs I use, an avi and username. So YOUR opinion is invalid to be honest.

Why should I show you anything? I have a few songs which are near enough completed that my friends have. But here's a screenshot of one of my Logic Projects i'm working on:
http://img517.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... re3hk8.png
and a small sample of the screenshot in mp3:

Also do you own Pro Tools? If not shut the fuck up and stop trying (and failing) to make my opinions look invalid. Also how would my opinion on Pro Tools being crap for making electronic music have anything to do with my ability of making music? Are you saying that big artists like Skream & Benga are more entitle to comment on software than an amateur?

And if you even bothered to look at my posting history you would see that I clearly know how to make music. Why else would I have 170+ posts in a dubstep production forum if I didn't make the music you fucktard!

You don't have to show me anything(especially a screenshot), but when you talk alot of shit you should be able to back it up. Which you obviously can not, except with name calling. Yes I do own and use Pro tools, and use it to make electronic music all the time. Also I did not need to try to make your your opinions look invalid, you did that all on your own. Who said anything about Skream and Benga, the only point I was making is that someone should be able to make dubstep music, before they go telling other people how to. I did look at your other posts too, and there's nothing showing you know how to make dubstep music, only talk about it.

...Well I obviously do after this comment:
justrob wrote: You are telling people that Pro tools is shit for electronic music, but you can't even prove that you're capable of making dubstep with any program. Yet you still say you are an "expert" at all of them.
----------
justrob wrote:Also I did not need to try to make your your opinions look invalid, you did that all on your own.
How did I do that? I simply stated that Pro Tools is rubbish for electronic music. And then I listed all the programs I own and use (which is more than you I imagine). Now where along that line did I make my point look invalid?
justrob wrote:Who said anything about Skream and Benga, the only point I was making is that someone should be able to make dubstep music, before they go telling other people how to.
:|
I never told anybody 'how to make dubstep music.' I said that the particular program in questions not as good at producing electronic music compared to its competitors. I didn't even type dubstep...
And yes you're right you shouldn't tell people how to make music if you don't know how to yourself. But I didn't tell anyone how to make music; did I? I mean correct me if I'm wrong, but in this thread I never gave anyone pointers on how to make music. I just stated that ...well I think by now anyone reading knows how I feel about Pro Tools.

So what this comes down to is you misreading what I have typed. Either you need to get some glasses or learn to read.

justrob wrote:I did look at your other posts too, and there's nothing showing you know how to make dubstep music, only talk about it.
Well if I talk about making dubstep music I obviously know how to make it. And even if you think I don't (after mp3 and image upload), I don't care because this little argument over if I can make music came about after you obviously misread one of my posts. This thread is about a DAW not about dubstep

....WTF.

Okay, I typed dubstep once. My mistake. However...

I was pointing out in that little quote that Pro Tools isn't good at producing electronic music. And then to seem patronizing I added 'including, dur... (a big clue in itself!) dubstep production.'

This was stating that:
a) Dubstep is a genre that fits into the electronic music category.
b) Pro Tools in not good at creating dubstep as well, or as with ease as other DAW's.

It's obvious that I wasn't telling anyone how to make dubstep, I was saying that dubstep is much harder to make because Pro Tools is flawed. I would have thought this would be obvious to you. I mean its in black and white text in front of you :?: Mabey there's a problem with your monitor, or English isn't your first language... or your dyslexic and have a hard time reading things??? Seriously how the hell can you call me on that. The only thing you got right there was that I did infact type dubstep. This is the second major error in your argument so far! The first was to state that I didn't know how to make dubstep. And the second to say that I told someone 'how to make Dubstep.' And whoever that person is in this thread, who I told how to make Dubstep, please, please come forward lol.

You probably just don't know how to use it, pro tools yields the best sound of any system, I'll admit it has limitations, but it more than makes up for it in quality and flexibility in other areas, I've made every beat I've ever produced on Pro Tools and I have no complaints;

One things for sure it pretty much shits on everything else

This has certainly been a bit of action i didnt expect from some simple advice on what pro tools to get.

If anyone actually cares anymore i've gone against the fast track pro idea as the sample rates it cn handle dont go up to 96khz. Just gona go with mbox 2 pro tools 7.4 with a free upgrade to version 8.
