If you don't like something, slag it off in the comfort of your own mind, at least then you won't get peoples backs up who're not in the discussion, some of the greatest music ever made in my opinion is indie.. and it isn't all about skinny jeans and a hair cut, thats just your closed mind & being exposed to, too much music television.

Sorry Junglist but to say that its only for homophobe. ass indie recording is laughable. Its an industry standard program for post production, music recording and production and a hell of a lot of audio-visual work too - which is also a major reason why i'm buying it as i'm trying to pursue a career as a dubbing mixer.

So the midi sequencer isnt amazing - Thats fine, i do most of my midi sequencing through reason anyway, i'm really going to be using pro tools to host the audio while i'm making the tune, then gona bang everything through some plugins to start beefing things up once the tunes sounding good.

It costs a bit yes thats true but i have worked with it for the past 3/4 years and would like to stay with a program i feel comfortable with - it may not be everyones cup of tea but i find that because i've worked with it for a wee while now i can use it to suit my needs pretty well.

For general production not creation pro tools is my favourite piece of software, the automation functions are very easy to use and control, the layout and shortcut keys are pretty useful and the plugins i have on my hard drive are all compatible with it.

If i was buying something SOLELY for making tunes then fair enough i might go with something else. However i want to be doing some audio for visual work, start building up a bit of a portfolio to send off to the trendo stnuc that work in the post production industry - Seeing as i've spent a few years using the program i may as well continue with it especially seeing as i quite enjoy using it and the better i get on it will increase my chances of getting a job as it is the most widely used program for post work.

Anyway, looking back on my question - Junglist, i have been told to wait for pro tools 8 by other people too but i really am the shittest saver ever so its now or never or its just gona get blazed on skunk and charlie. Think i'm definitely going to go for the fast track pro card and pro tools mpowered and hopefully get a free upgrade to 8 (not sure about that though, think they might only give the free upgrades to the point something versions).

buy the 7.4 version now, and don't enter the information (serial number... etc) into the digidesign website Wait a while and then do it. Apparently if you enter it after ver 8.0 has been released you'll get a free upgrade rather than forking out £90 extra for the upgrade. That's what I was told by a certified pro tools 'expert'. However i'm not 100% sure on this as this may just be the case for students.

I have yet to try it out as I havn't entered my 7.4 info yet.

...you pretty much got it spot on for dnb heads/ junglists. I'd jack off to an amen, apache, or funkydrummer break any time. Those choppy hi hats and snares really get my goat. Any yes I do like drugs especially speedy ones like meth and coke.

Pro Tools 7.4 LE
Logic Pro 8
Acid Pro 6
Magix

But I use mainly logic pro 8 on Mac, and Acid Pro 6 on Windows. And to be perfectly honest with you I've kind of moved away from dubstep to work on Techstep recently. Although I should be releasing a jungle remix soon that will be on Beatport. As far as my other work goes, nothing I particularly want to show because most of my tunes are in a dire state, most comprising of 16 bars of finished sound with no attempt at proper composition of the track, or work in progress that still needs some heavy quality control.
Although i'm doing the DSF 7.0 competition so you'll get a chance to hear my stuff then.

No. I used Magix for over a year when I first got into producing and used it to make allot of Drum & Bass. I also use Reason 3 quite a bit but use Logic and Acid Pro as my main sequencers. I also use Pro Tools to edit samples and clips, and as for having nothing to show for it, I have made loads of tracks across multiple genres however I am the type of person who always likes to tweek and tweek away. Therefore I have yet to get a tune to a stage where I think it is 'finished' and ready to be mastered. Just because I am not going to link you up to my work does not mean that I (in your words) "have nothing to show for it." Because I do, just nothing to show you, a person who appears to be out for blood. Because if I look back over this thread you can see that the my little rant about Pro Tools has ended. As had the main question which only I answered to any questionable standard and expertise. So what are you trying to get at?

And yes I do have the expertise because I have used every one of the programs listed for at least a good 20 - 25 hours minimum, if not into the hundreds of hours range.

Okay, I typed dubstep once. My mistake. However...

I was pointing out in that little quote that Pro Tools isn't good at producing electronic music. And then to seem patronizing I added 'including, dur... (a big clue in itself!) dubstep production.'

This was stating that:
a) Dubstep is a genre that fits into the electronic music category.
b) Pro Tools in not good at creating dubstep as well, or as with ease as other DAW's.

It's obvious that I wasn't telling anyone how to make dubstep, I was saying that dubstep is much harder to make because Pro Tools is flawed. I would have thought this would be obvious to you. I mean its in black and white text in front of you Mabey there's a problem with your monitor, or English isn't your first language... or your dyslexic and have a hard time reading things??? Seriously how the hell can you call me on that. The only thing you got right there was that I did infact type dubstep. This is the second major error in your argument so far! The first was to state that I didn't know how to make dubstep. And the second to say that I told someone 'how to make Dubstep.' You probably just don't know how to use it, pro tools yields the best sound of any system, I'll admit it has limitations, but it more than makes up for it in quality and flexibility in other areas, I've made every beat I've ever produced on Pro Tools and I have no complaints;

If anyone actually cares anymore i've gone against the fast track pro idea as the sample rates it cn handle dont go up to 96khz. Just gona go with mbox 2 pro tools 7.4 with a free upgrade to version 8.
