Maybe, but as this board keeps growing in membership is it gonna be any more or less fair when there are, say, 60 entries and 40 votes? If people can't be bothered to even skip through 19 entries, what's going to happen if/when more people participate?limiting the amount of participants or paritioning them doesn't seem very fair or practical,
Thanks for taking a look at shuffling tunes Glottis. For what it's worth, even with all this stuff you guys' track kicked some serious bootay.
Thought of that too, although in my opinion this is more limiting to creativity than limiting the total number of entries by some impartial method like a lottery or something. Still, anything's worth considering.blip wrote:Just occurred to me that limiting the length of the tracks could make listening less of a chore. Maximum 3 minutes? Enough to develop ideas.
re: Incentives like cash or whatever - that'd be fine, but it really is all for the fun of it - at least with me, and apparently most of the other heads here too. It actually might wind up complicating things more also.
re: Only allowing entrants to vote - can't say I like that idea too much, but since this is just a discussion at this point...
Again, no arguments that this is first and foremost all about shits & giggles; but why call it a competition then? Why isn't it just a "here's a bunch of samples/everybody remix, post, & that's it" thing?Wub wrote:I think too much emphasis is being put by some of this being a contest. It's an exercise in seeing how people use things differently.
Yeah, this is definitely true. My producing buddy and I have learned a lot from these - it's made us much better at setting & meeting deadlines, plus when you're messing with someone else's sounds and not your own it's easier to take risks and push things farther than you might with your own "baby," y'know? The Samplepack Competitions are really what keep me coming back to the Production forum time and time again... 'cause it sure ain't the newbie "How do I make a bass that sounds just like Loefah" or "Is there a wobble preset in Logic" posts...S.I.E. wrote:IMO it is more a comp with oneself ...battle against time and creativity with having a deadline and a samplepack to limit what you can do. ...It's just a bit of fun at the end of the day and sometimes it helps to get those creative juices flowing again, for me anyway, after a stale period.

re: Tune Fights - see, these are lean, mean, and no-nonsense... and probably a little easier for non-producer types to get into as well.
