M-Audio Axiom 49 or Novation Remote SL Compact 49.

Post by azair » Sun Nov 16, 2008 9:53 am

Hi there.

I've been looking for a USB MIDI keyboard, and I've got two models recommended.

First the M-Audio Axiom 49 and second, the Novation Remote SL Compact 49. I see that the Novation USB MIDI keyboard is more expensive, so my considerations has been about what I get for the last money if I purchase the Novation USB MIDI keyboard.

I know the prices aren't to big, but if I can save a few hundred dollars, I got them for monitors and a soundcard.

Instead of making two threads, I just want to ask about soundcard too. I looked at the Novation Nio one, which is cheap and looks simple. Any thoughts on that?

Regards,

Azair.

well the disadvantage of the axiom is that it doesn't actually have midi ports if you want to use it as a standalone midi keyboard (if you need to)
other than that i'd lean that way if i was trying to conserve cash
never even heard of that soundcard tbh, what exactly are you looking for in your card anyways? might wanna take a look at the emu 1212m & 1616m series soundcards

might wanna give some of the threads in here a read too

get the novation

the automap stuff is soooo handy. Otherwise youll have to program all the mappings for any sythsn etc you use.

I have the remote zero and love it.

:D

I'm not quite sure yet, because there are seperate opinions. Can anyone add some views and recommendations?

As for soundcard, I was recommended this soundcard: http://www.novationmusic.com/products/a ... es/nio_24/

It's affordable and looks quite simple. I'm not so much into the soundcard thing, but in another thread of mine, several made a strong message that soundcard was very important.

got an axiom its fine, been battered, ashed on, sex wee'd on etc still going strong.

soundcard is very important, that novation one never heard it but if its dirt cheap and it has all those effects etc it wont be of the best quality.

better to get a simpler soundcard without the effects etc for the same price, will sound and behave alot better.

i have a m-audio mobile pre
http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop/flyp ... ct_id/3015

for my laptop, simple but works well never had any problems.

i just got one too. seems really good as far as i can tell. Does anyone know how to assign the pads and dials to vsts? for instance, to Albino in Cubase?

device panel>cc of param you want
edit disregard was thinking of something else

just set up a generic remote device
midi learn for fader/knob/whatever you want to use
assign to midi cc of that vst param

Hi,
recently got a Remote SL25 Compact. Semi weighted. USB with standard MIDI ports, 8 pads and 8 rotary and loads of buttons. Comes with Novation automap which has loads of templates for controlling different gear. Auto picks up on vst plugs and gives control of main features straight away. I use the Cubase and Reason templates quite a bit but I'm so used to touching real gear, half the time I just use the mouse. Lot of potential just wish I'd got the 37 key version as 25 just ain't quite enough to play it properly. Maybe I'll get into it more as the RSI gets worse. 8)

So soundcard.

Can someone compare these two products? Or maybe there's a better product out there in same price category?

http://store.apple.com/dk/product/TQ878 ... MjIzMTI5Ng

The Novation one is more expensive.

depends on what you want,

if you need a simple soundcard with two mic inputs the mobile pre is probably the way to go, i have one and its good.

not sure about the novation one and as ive said before the bundled effects make me wary at that price, but again if you want some effects to play with im sure it will be fine, it's just that usually cheap products with lots of dazzling effects means they havn't spent the money elsewhere.

but there are exceptions to that rule and it may be one just never heard of it before, but looking on the webs it appears to have quite a few good reviews.

What kinds of effects are you talking about? Is there any other soundcards you can recommend?

i take it you read the specs of the novation box?

comes with bundled effects to use in your songs.

recommendations would be subject to what you need

how many inputs do you need/outputs you need, does it have to be usb?

When I obviously need one/two for my USB MIDI controller and I can only connect it through USB to my MacBook I think. Any possibilities of getting more USB inputs for Mac? Some kind of box?

im talking about audio inputs/outputs got nothing to do with your midi keyboard,

any usb hub thats self powered (external power supply) will do the job, just search for usb hub on amazon.
