Sorry but I'm gonna have to tell you to shut the fuck up now because you never got it the first time.

Don't be so dumb, not everywhere in the world has speed limits. One such place in Germany and their Autobahns. They also don't have lights on many of them.... it's still perfectly legal.

about this time last year we were at a race track having a bit of a session on our dh bikes.
on one part of the track, you had to get through a greasy corner and hit a blind 8ft drop to flat. i came through the corner nice and quick but sliding. the slide scrubbed off enough speed for me to mess up the drop...

i landed on the back of my head at about 30kph or so. i heard a pop and saw a flash. i came to a few minutes later to the sound of my mates trying to figure out what to do. i was not right, i could tell from the pins and needles in my neck and my very messed up eyesight. eventually got up but was walking around like i was a infant learning to walk again. as we got back to our vans i passed out again.

i woke up in hospital. strapped to a spinal board on my way to get a catscan. i shit myself, because i didn't know of the strapping and i couldn't move. i thought i was paralysed.
4 catscans and 5 x-rays later determined that i had suffered an extreme hyperflexion of the vertebre. this when your head goes too far forward. a couple of broken fingers. heavily bruised sternum from my chin of my helmet getting mashed into my chest and and a severe concussion.

for about a month after i couldn't stand up with my eyes closed or read if i had to drop my head forward to look at the book i was reading...

flipped my car doing about 80 mph... it rolled 2 or 3 times up the bank at the side of the road and then back down again... ended up on its side facing the wrong way... drum and bass still blaring out propa loud...

physically i was absolutely fine... my girlfriend was cool except for a few scratches on her hands from broken glass and a tiny bump on the head...

scary thing was though that if she had been sitting up properly in her seat (she was slouched right down) her head would have propbably been obliterated and she probably wouldn't still be about... :o

it was all a bit fucked up really... but i learnt my lesson... PAY FUCKING ATTENTION TO THE FUCKING ROAD!!!

My dad had a near miss before I was born. He used to work on the railways and was doing some work in between two carriages. His mate asked him to go for a cig. He refused but his mate kept pestering. He finally gave in and walked out of the way just as the two carriages slammed together. Smoking saved his life it seems. And mine. Ha!!

In the passenger seat of my friends car as he decided to pass a car on a small road. The road ended and we skid through the cross street, missed a telephone pole by 3ft, then did a 180 through a field.

Picked up a conch shell on a deserted island in Tonga and the creature inside it ( is it called a conch? ) kept reaching with it's tentacle thingy to get at my hand. I repeatedly dropped it in the water then picked it back up again, only to later find out if it stings you paralysis sets in and you die shortly after.

Went skydiving for the first time with one of my friends. We both had instructors that were strapped to us and at the controls. Anyway, after the parachute was deployed my instructor and my frineds instructor decided to touch their parachutes together. Homo erotic jokes aside, the other guy came at me and my instructor too fast and his parachute began to tangle with ours. My instructor was franticly yelling at the other guy to " pull right damn it! " The parachutes eventually untangled themselves and everything ended up okay minus the shit stains in pants.

does being in a coma at the age of five from eating unwashed fruit count?
i vividly remember passing out and my grandma running towards me.

the next thing i remember is waking up some days later (could be 1, could be 3..) in the hospital. they put me in the same room with 3 or 4 genetically deformed babies due to lack of space in other rooms. I remember one of them having some sort of a pig-like nose.
at that age i thought that was pretty cool and i got to spend a few more days of recovery there and i would help bottle-feed them.

pfff..not sure if my story fits the thread but i thought it was worth telling.

Hit by a car, hit by a bus. Both minor really, but SERIOUS bruising.

Bad near miss; doing my shoelace up on an island (in the middle of holborn) and as I leant up a bendy bus going 25 mph round a corner missed my nose by literally 1cm. Had I taken 5 secs more to do my lace my head would be in a bin pon Southampton Row.

Kinda puts my life into perspective a bit...I've had absolutely no near-death/life experiences like any of the shit in this thread.

Doesn't look too good anyway. :)
& Basser, count ya luckies
maybe you had a good start.
I was bought home from birth, started bleeding,
nearly bled out before doc arrived
emergency surgery on dining table
and then nearly carked it from effects.
Sometimes wonder if I'm pursuing that primal experience
of being alive.
But don't worry if you've missed out so far, happens to us all eventually.

I'm in awe of the bigrisk takers doing that crazy shit on motorbikes.

You thinking of a cone snail? Only the really big ones will kill you. Conchs aren't venomous.

Not trying to split hairs or anything. :)
