Every single sound has its own unique freq - you cannot formulize it with a set EQ. You have to EQ every sound seperatly on the fly. I dont allways put eq on as soon as i add to the mix tho. I try to find sounds that work dry together - then start sharpening up with eq's after it allready sounds good. To a degree there is formular - cut freq's that arnt used to gain headroom and boost ones that tickle the ear.

EQ for club play straight from your studio for most small-time producers is a tricky business! I have learnt alot from hearing my tracks on big systems. Taken mental notes as to what works /what doesnt/how much mixer eq did i need to cut or boost to get the impact and clarity etc.. Hearing your stuff on big rigs gives you feedback on what the big rig sounds like and you'll reference it in your brain when writing.

well it goes like this

i like the most nastyest sounds so what i do is:
i use predator by rod papen btw

in predator use the envelope too make the sound coz lfo cuts the end of the sound out and i found some sound waves sound good wiv lfo and some sound good without ... so set you rates at this

attack: 100 ms
decay: 230 ms
sustain: 0 ms
release: 20 ms (so it dont make a clip noise)

then put your notes in also make the decay longer n shorter save the diferent patches so you have a vary of the sound to swith up your next verse

also heres an idea
put slight reverb on your bass and it will sound nice i found this out by using reverb on heavy drums

so use it on the bass too
on the preator you have a built in effects unit where you can have 3 diff effect runnin at once
it also has 3x osc BASICALY GET PREDATOR

yh i use lo-fi to reduce sample rate that will emulate bar 9's duck hunter bass

then use the waveshaper (also on predator effects)
and then u can really effect it rawness

To make a nice dirty sub bass jus follow this (if you can)

a good thing to use also is a nice sub bass (sine)
then set another bass with just the mid freq (use the spectrum anylizer to see where the sub bass is losing power ( i mean where the frequancy of the sub dies out)

then set the envelopes too

attack: 200 ms or 300 ms vary it with 2 pathes for unique sounding bass
decay: 100 ms
sustain: 0 ms
release 50 ms

use the eq to boost mid freq with the other bass u make
and then compress the sub bass and do the same to the raw bass
but when you do this set the levels of the raw bass a bit lower than you need to make it sound like a dirty sub

any other help need just add me on myspace or pm me n ill give you as much advice as i can to make your bass too much for you head

peace

1 - knowledge

2 - experience

3 - truth

4- not being an advert for predator

Other than that it was spot on.

i like half sine and square with distortion the add some saturation, reverb and e.q

yea if i get the time/have the patience i'm debating doing a synthesis guide with sound clips etc in as a generic/basic way as possible instead of synth/plugin specific.
figure while i wait for a new hard drive in the mail i can try to post something useful instead of just wasting time on forums.
