When did dubstep start in your country?

Hi all,

I am a part time dubstep producer and a research student at a Japanese university doing a research into the Japanese dubstep scene and how the scene as a whole has spread.

I'd like to ask all of you at what moment in time you'd say that your local scene started (outside the UK), for instance with the first all-dubstep event and/or important moments such as the start of a label.

From my experience in Iceland things kicked off with the first all-dubstep night in January 2007. From there on there have been semi-regular nights and producers popping up on MySpace.

In Japan I am told that the first all-dubstep night was Goth Trad's first Back To Chill party in late 2006, I believe.

Add on please and and get in touch if you are also doing academic research on the topic of dubstep.

heh. nothing wrong with some beardstep tbh, the main problem is with those who like beardstep and ONLY beardstep, or ONLY the death wubble... there's enough room for everyone. And sometimes the chill shit will blow the roof off of a packed house if you drop it at the right time, in the right place, on the right system.

Problem is most DJ's suck at knowing when to drop the hammer. Was talking with XI about that actually... there is a time and a place. But he said he'd never hesitate to wheel some Rusko stuff in front of 2000 people. All about building a set. That said... in the states, the Dubstep boom began in 2005, really started sailing in 2006 and I think peaked in it's current incarnation in 2007 and 2008... now it will decrease in it's current form, while techno, drum n bass and electro really start to show their influence. Not a bad thing, just a new one.

the "implication" being that there was a lot of energy and excitement that went away really fast.

In greece first guy who dropped dubstep (along with some of his usual drill n bass) was australian Nam Shub Of Enki, in a squat we did at the politechnic, september 2005. I played my first full dubstep set in another one of our squats may 2006, which was the first greek dubstep set and then brought (along with partners in crime funxion crew) Luke Envoy, first dubstep dj playing as a guest, november 2006... We experimented with pure dubstep nights, threw half a dozen parties, but is hard for something like that working without putting loads of money from your pocket... we also made the first greek label's dubstep release december last year, but it was a uk artist, and we dont consider ourselves a dubstep label...

from then on there have been numerous dj sets, mostly from greek but also international guests, even some live sets, with most parties mixing dnb with dubstep, by ourselves, funxion, d2, urban danza crews... the summer synch festival made a dubstep stage for a day, and last month we even saw a pure dubstep gig organised by lifo magazine (biggest free press), unfortunately it's readers didnt get the message...

Still im afraid there's no "scene" here (there aint many "heads", records sell ridiculously small numbers) , just some open minded people who like to support new sounds, the squat dwellers who love anything with huge bass + the trendy fuckers who read about it and come just to talk with their mates about how cool they are, looking at the dj without moving an inch to the sounds... i think a scene would mean lot more and im not sure how many places outside of the UK can talk about having one (excuse my ignorance if im wrong here)...

In Brazil? At 2004 with some regular parties that we used to run and are gone by now... But... Seems that things got better now! We're playing in big clubs with decent sound systems and a nice local media coverage... This is a result of years working hard to promote Dubstep and Bass Culture here... We have to thank you everybody who gave support to us... Labels, artists, etc...

in japan.yepyep mainly gothtrad started back to chill aka mad rave back in 2006 then after that most famous dnb party called DBS aka drumandbass sessions invited mala back in March 2007 for DBSxDUBSTEPWARZ was a big point to spread the dubstep for lots japanese ppl into dubstep more and more.its still goin to be massive and im feelin it for rillz and ppl r starting own parties a lot in japan thats 2008.i think
