Yeah I've got a M-Audio delta sound card, Just wonderin' wether a more expensive soundcard has a huge effect on the sound quality of your productions. My tunes seem to sound a bit too computery (Might make me sound stupider than I already am, seen as Im using a compter) and lacking real feel to them.

If your tunes are sounding computery I wouldn't blame your equipment too much mate.

Anythin' else to add to that mate? Aint claimin to be a shit hot producer coz I'm far from it. So is it down to eq, using your synth settings productivley. That comment just didn't relly tell me too much.

that did sound bit short, I aint claiming to be shit hot either. What I mean is there are ways of softening sound to give it a warmer feel, application of filters, reverb or delay can help some effects like vintage warmer are designed to give a tape feel. VST instruments also can be shit but I try and blame my tools second these days LOL.

If you've got an external mixer, you could send it through that, put it into the red (very slightly) then record it back into the pc, bit complicated but you might get a warmer feel doing that. Could probably get the same by putting a bit of overdrive on your snares and hats

the best way to get rid of that computery sound i find is in no particular order;

a) careful eqing
b) use of tube distortion
c) reverb - the more professional sounding ones, my favourite being ambience which is free (if you dont mind a nag screen every time you open it) a little bit on your synths and drums can put all the elements in the mix in the same "space" and can make it sound more "natural" (not on kicks or subs however as that'll just cause mud)
d) layering
and e) using the best plugins you can get your hands on e.g using the free synths you get with cubase you arent going to get great sound, however using the standalone proffesional synths such as Albino, Fm7 etc will get you a better sound

however there is no quick fix to getting a non "computery" or ringtone sound,
try different things and you'll learn from experience

Is it the delta 10/10? I'm just getting a new setup and am split over a firewire M-audio audiophile or a saffire LE....Are people here typically using a PCI soundcard or a breakout box (or both like the delta?)...

Can any1 tell me of any good vst effects worth getting? or is a vst reverb, delay etc... Just as good as any?

theres alot of crap around

what i use;

Reverb - Kjaerhus classic reverb - free, ambience - free
Delay - ohmforce - ohmboys

go to http://www.kvraudio.com go through the plugins there, theres usually helpful reviews on each plug in
