I mean, fuck me. We've done some HORRIBLE shit over the centuries, surely we deserve to celebrate something similar?!
I really want turkey.

That's the point.Magma wrote:But if we had Turkey in November what would we have at Christmas?
I was deprived of Christmas as a child. My mums a Muslim and my dad's a Jehovah's fucking Witness.
So something that has nothing to do with religion, but rather the massacring of native peoples or something similar, works for me!

its become just like every other holiday...
halloween is now about (for kids) candy....(for 'adults') dressing slutty and getting fucked up.
christmas is about presents...people celebrate even if they arent christian.
Valentines day is about chocolate and flowers...
easter....easter eggs and bunny rabbits...
there is no meaning behind them anymore...

I think it was traditionally the American version of the Harvest Festival that most countries have in the Autumn... the American settlers just gave it a proper name and a signature dish sometime in the 1600s.DJ Whistla wrote:what are the US actually thankful for?
this has always confused me.
they drive across the country to see there families to celebrate what?

I really, really love Christmas. But my family don't celebrate it.

Man, got together with all of my family yesterday (all 4 of them!) and ate 3 full meals...I brought Chicken Tikka Masala makings, with Naan and Basmati rice, My brother brought us each a Game Hen, and my Dad pan seared some pork chops and mashed potatoes. Then we drank, smoked and had fun just hanging out together for about 8 or 9 hours. I didnt leave my mom's until 1 am.
Its just a chance to get together and hopefully have fun. If my fam wasnt so tiny and tight knit it would suck, but I love Thanksgiving, not so much corporate BS stuffed in our faces with it, unlike god damned X-Mas, which is going to be stuffed down our throats like crazy for the next month...ugh.
Leftovers time!!!!!!!!!!!

Firstly I think that even though me and my family are deeply unreligious, we still definitely like to celebrate xmas. not as the birth of jésus but as a wicked time of year when everyone is happy and enjoy giving and receiving pressies.
secondly I know that celebrations like easter halloween aren't about what they used to be but they are fun right? something to look forward to?
and I think that bringing up a child without xmas and presents when all of their mates do is just tight.
Btw Sri, i can do that in your sig

The actual holiday is quite retarded for us anyway if you think about it...DJ Whistla wrote:what are the US actually thankful for?

I guess for some odd reason we give thanks to the people who fucked some indians up and copped their land thus making it our land.
but I really like stuffing and turkey. so, hey...
but anyways, I ate so much lastnight.
for real???? nice!BEN? wrote:Btw Sri, i can do that in your sig
i personally dont like the idea of thanksgiving. i think its sad the native americans lost their land, and in the process america lost its identity sort of. its roots if you will. i drove on part of the trail of tears in arkansas and oklahoma a few years back and decided i no longer would celebrate what thanksgiving stands for. it is a nice time to spend with family and friends but so is every day in my opinion. and christmas has become way too commercialized anymore in the us.
