Lost all my mp3's!

Post by properauthority » Mon Dec 01, 2008 4:37 pm

So PartitionMagic fucked up and corrupted my hard-drive whilst rearranging partitions on my MP3 drive and I lost over 100GB's of jungle/dubstep/breakcore tracks. Fuck.

been to a specialist in retrieving files?
My dad, in a pissed up state deleted our whole itunes, but he went to a specialist and they managed to retrieve about three quarters of them.

PartitionMagic also fucked my hardrive one time.. but then I plugged it on a friends computer and installed a lousy free recover files program and I managed to recover all my music ...

Now I always make a backup on DVD of my downloads

You did know you can only partition hard drives whilst they are empty - right?

Otherwise it corrupts the data. As you've painfully found out. :(

EDIT: Hate to be "that guy" btw :p

no need to panic.. just use "ontrack easy recovery"
it helped me retrieve all data. the only thing you'll have to do is to rename all the files when ontrack pulls them back.

file restoring programs have got very good of late, as long as you haven't written over the empty space you should be able to get it all back. My mate even managed to restore a formatted disk with one.

FYI: My mp3 collection is actually about 500gb, not 100gb. It's ok, i'll let you off - schoolboy mistake.
