Just remember, When it comes to "Rakim" of the reggaeton/regueton music world, it's pronounced "Rah-keem", especially when he's with Ken-Y. :P

When living in philly, one of my boys was half cuban/half black and he had the CRAZIEST reggaeton. It really combines a lot of genres, which I like. And I don't care what folks say, Don Omar is gangsta as fuck.

I used to despise it, but some of the stuff i heard on the radio in Peru was quite good. A friend of mine who lived in bolivia said he met daddy yankee in an airport once, apparently he is ridiculously nice.

Also check out the Ola de Calor Blogariddims podcast (can't remember which number it is), that is amazing, far from entirely reggaeton, but it's brilliant more or less the whole way through

seems odd that folks on a dance music forum should feel so uncomfortable with repetitive beats

yep. most of the reggaeton I hear around here is shit, though...

so until I hear something good out of reggaeton - I hate it.

its good dance music. you can use some reggaeton dancesteps with dubstep btw.

i live in the hood in l.a. and you hear more reggaeton than gfunk. its good shit. the backing tracks are more dense than dancehall with more latin classic flamenco style melodies etc. hella electro influence from latin booty crossover. but you know that already if you actually listen to it.

like any genre theres good and bad. if you think any genre sux its becasue you havent heard the good shit yet.

latin music was a huge influence on disco those disco strings could be from over produced nyc latin pop records of the 60s. and carribean music is one big mix.
