Drugs don't replace real talant. I think the people in the past and presant who took/take drugs and who do actuelly have talant are not doing it out of some desire to look cool or bye into a life style. They're probebly doing it to suppress pain or deppression. Or use them as a means to cope with life.

I think in Docherty's case it was the supposed glamour of the life style that lurd him into it. But, not knowing him, i could be wrong.

there's a song by this obscure indie band called the indelicates entitled 'waiting for pete doherty to die' - it's not as cynical cash-in as it sounds, and it's not really about doherty himself, more the media stuff surrounding him. but the title's pretty spot-on i think: as with all celeb heroin dramas you do just feel like there's an inevitability about it which is pretty horrible.

anyone see the docu about doherty on channel four a while back? made by this totally obsessive journo/nutcase that ended up painting the journo in a FAR worse light than doherty himself. which is some achievement.

i actually think the first libertines album was pretty good quality, clash rip-off-style, eng-er-lish punk. but babyshambles, omg, i haven't heard such a pathetic excuse for a rock band since selfish tnuc.

I've got a mate that I don't see that often for obvious reasons who seems to think it's cool occassionally to have a bit of a smack and crack binge - he actually thinks it's quite cool and edgy, even though he's 33. He was hanging around with a crowd who were diligently doing ketamine, and started getting them involved. We don't see much of them anymore either. A friend of mine died earlier this year from a crack binge that ended with him doing some skag to get rid of the comedown (although originally they said it was a lung infection that had gone too far).

Strangely enough, at his memorial, plenty of people were saying he lived life to the full, living on the edge sort of thing. Isn't there some point where people might actually start thinking - fuck me, he's gonna kill himself if he doesn't rein this in.
