Nah, bit of confusion here - the thread was asking what was the first tune that got peeps into the sound, Paul thought it was a discussion on what the very first dubstep tune was.

Dancehall EP was definitely a landmark in terms of the 'dub' in dubstep meaning reggae influenced and not just 'instrumental.'

Stuff that Senor Thinking played me about two years ago (inc. Vex'd dubs), then he lent me some stuff on Hotflush and DMZ - I then spent a fair bit of cash in Rooted and BM and got hooked.. So without knowing what it was I'd have to say Vex'd.. and it was probably Pop-Pop.

No doubt bro. I cant help seeing dubtep or whatever as just a big playground now though

The reason I LOVE DMZ so much is not because they make 'good' 'dubstep' music but because they blew the frames out and showed mans that its about sounds not genres.

I think every artist is now a sound/scene in themselves (those that overstand music) there may be a few sounds that correlate between certain artists but i prefer allowing the arists to let me peep through the window into their world. I let the DJ find the correlations

Hope that makes sense.

I'd love to build further on this if u have any opinions or can maybe articulate what I've said feel free

I got in to dubstep through the old Ghost releases and then through the tempa and big apple stuff...used to mix the darker tracks with techno records when i played out, and still do...

But i think a tune that stands out for me was Maddslinky's The Fog, wicked bass line, sparse minimal 2-step...awsome stuff...really like the dark 2-step vibe...

My first contact with dubstep was the shows of Kode9 at Groovetech. Some early Tempa/Ghost/Shelflife, El-B, Zed Bias, Darqwan, Wiley (on a eskibeat tip). Got all the catalog of those labels, pure gold!!!
