I'm interested in this provided my material is good enough.
I've submitted 3 tracks; 1 solo and the other 2 written with a different friend for each. So, technically 3 different artists. Thanks, I'm looking fwd to the final product!

hows this any different from any other dj putting a mix together of songs that they got off the forum?

slightly different.
submissions are made with the intent of getting on a mix they know is going to be made. rather than posting tunes and hoping someone notices them. organizing it this way serves to create anticipation for the mix.
it's basically the reverse process of any other dj putting together a mix from dubs they gather off the forum. bottom up not top down.
plus its organized - and can turn into a regular thing so different folks can get a crack at it each time if we get it rolling..
and its the production forum people maaaan
submit something!

if you want some your tunes in a forum mixtape...
send them to Jolly Wailer
he will organise them and pass them along to kidlogic and myself and we will put them in a mix that will have some nice artwork and get promoted heavily on this forum and the internet
simple
perfect right there. can't wait to hear this!

Also, if the submission time goes too long perhaps interest will wane out? On the other hand, if it's too short not enough people might even know about this project yet?
IMO tracks will be received up until Christmas (?) - and then I'll take all the dubs in the dropbox to that point and send 'em over to be selected and mixed, and then we wait patiently..
All tracks received and sent will be documented and posted later on in the thread.

oh and I cant speak for FSTZ, but my schedule is cool to have something done up by the new year.
If everyone is down with it too, we can "release" this as both the individual tracks and the mix as an Extranormous Records compilation and host it on the website (which will be more than just a virb page in a few weeks) - www.extranormousrecords.com - I will be down to do it as a monthly or however regularly we do it thing too.
If not, no worries, but if you guys want to do it that way, Im down. Just let me know.
On a side note since I just brought it up, Extranormous is a free label I started that will be focusing on bootlegs, new talent, and anything else that fits and can be put out for free. If you guys have anything that you may want considered for it, hit me up.

that would be bad for the label, yes
I don't see the point in offering up all the tunes to people seperate from the mix
if someone likes the tunes, let them do the work, buy the tune or contact the producer that made the tune for a promo
FYI: I never give out tunes that aren't mine to anyone, except the occasional promo from my label
and Kidlogic doesn't even give me all of his own tunes LOL
keeping tunes safe is an important rule to live by if you want to last in the game

Well I guess somebody is doing the artwork for this, (if it ends up being me) I was thinking of doing a rear cover as well as the front, and if I did this I have two questions:FSTZ wrote:that would be bad for the label, yes

1) Should there be a track list, (is the final mix going to be split into individual tracks so it's easy to navigate on an iPod etc, rather than one great big mix *what I would like to see*) or is it going to be one gargantuan 1-2 hour long mp3, which involves a lot of fwd and rwd to get to the highlights of the mix (not that every tune wont be massive
2) Granted that the artist has given permission, what does everyone think of the idea that on the (possible) rear cover / track listing, their be contact or website addressed for each producer underneath their tune? A bit of extra free publicity to go along with the generous record label and website host offer? done in a suttel [sp?] way (smaller font, and in italics)

tunes are going to be 'released' in a mix format only. this is going to be the production forum mixtape, not the production forum .zip file. I want nothing to do with allowing anyone's individual tracks being made available to the internet - seems like trouble.
just want the producers to know this.
EDIT: I just read your post above KidLogic about the mix vs. individual tracks, I guess I mean I only want to be involved as far as the mix goes, anything further you want to do with it with Extranormous is up to you and the others - but that seems like a bridge we cross later. safe.
I'd also prefer the mix to not be separate tracks, whats the point? You just wanna skip through everyone else's tracks and listen to your own huh?
we'll sort out artwork later.
Also I'm receiving dubs I've seen elsewhere circulating the boards, while this is cool with me to a certain degree, I'd like to see folks get behind the idea of this mixtape as a motivational ting and push to make something new for it - but if you've got old dubs you think need to be heard then submit those too.
things are sounding good so far. keep the submissions coming. submit!
