Dubstep x Hip Hop
I think the whole crunk x dubstep idea was a bit tounge in cheek. If your keen enough to know where to hear some dubstep out one night and the DJ decides to tease in some Lil John its gonna be more of a laugh then anything else.
Yes crunk music these days is formulaic but combining it with dubstep does not ruin the sound imho. It is simply another example of blending genres to bring a heightened level of energy and attract new headz who would not have realized what sick beats dubstep has buried within the genre itself.

Did this one about a year ago. Features Vex'd vs Khia as 2nd track.

Like Houston chopped'n'screwed hip hop, in fact - which Parson's already doing great stuff with on e.g. Throw Some Ds.hookup wrote:most crunk hiphop is somewhere between 70-80 which you can halftime under dubstep. OTher than that the usual 90-100 bpm hiphop you'll have to pitch shift and use key correction to keep vocals sounding normal - although sometimes the ultra low vocals sound tight.
Loads of Hyphy hip hop from Bay Area is double time - 120bpm+ so if you're into mixing it up that can easily go in there - as can Booty Bass / Ghettotek / Juke / Jit dance music which are all around 140bpm....
are there any clips of this or anything?tronman wrote:that loefah bit with the wu tang sample is FUCKING DISGUSTING. proper rowdy!

Re: Dubstep x Hip Hop
i guess u aint heard of dirtystep my friendbd1982 wrote:I've heard some really good sounding blends with grime and dirty south hip hop (Semtex's Crunk+Grime mix, Diplo, some of Kode9's RinseFm shows I think)...Has anyone experimented with more dubstep with hip hop vocals? I've found that "Request Line" works REALLY good with Three Six Mafia's "Stay Fly" acapella...def. got a good response from it last weekend.
In a perfect world of unbridled creativity and licensing, which dubstep artists would you like to see collobarate with which hip hop artists? I'd like to see:
Digital Mystikz x Wu-Tang (specifically Ghostface or RZA)
Kode9 x Vordul Mega of Cannibal OX
Scuba x Nas
just a few off the top of my head...Let's what everybody thinks!
