does anyone know the technique people like Todd Edwards and Karl brown used for those crunchy snare/hi hats..?

some kind of bitcrushing?timestretching?

Are you talking about that chh chh that hits on the first two beats with a little shuffle inbetween?

I've got a few of these in my sample library. I think you could make it simply by pitching down the right high hat.
