im doing 'epic' (Ughhh!) 'we both are lost' style tunes, and some technoey surgeon meets dubtep stuff ATM.

Getting well into loads of real instrument samples and building 'music'

thinking trying to learn a instrument would be useful as all samples can be a nightmare to fit together.

My production time ATM is split between getting my style down for straight up dancefloor bangers and figuring out how the hell Jamie Vex'd did the Twitch remix for Scuba. God damn I love that song. Really feeling that stretchy, unquantized-sounding-but-really-still-perfectly-on-time, squeetchy vibe tunes.

Also been thinking about how I can make tunes that sound like the Runnin and '93 remixes with a Dilla type workflow - and/or how to make a tune like that into a rolled out banger.

Essentially been thinking about producing a lot more than actually producing... which isnt such a bad thing IMO. I used to just turn Live on and hope something would happen. Now Im thinking through tunes a lot more and figuring out how to do the things I want before even sitting down at the computer so I have a more coheisive idea from the get.

I have a work schedule change going into effect on Monday which will give me far more time to produce, so hopefully will be turning these ideas into sound soon.

Yeah I think it has to come naturally. For me music is something I enjoy doing and so when I make a track it's really only for myself... if that means my tunes are all different well that's all that matters.

Now that I've got a decent amount of the basics down and I can make stuff that doesn't sound completely gash, I've just started revisiting all of the music I've loved over the years (mainly a LOT of 90s hip hop at the moment) to try and pull out all the little influences that make things sound like "me".

It's even harder than learning all the techy shit, frankly!

also, i've been writing lyrics for my vocalist... just wait until you hear this girls voice. doing lyrics is way harder than i thought it was going to be but really fun at the same time.

This was actually how i used to go about my tunes, thinking - do all this shit later, all that happened was i'd have a whole song of shit sounds and i wouldnt be arsed fixing it. Now i try and do things bit by bit - I'll get my drum patterns right then fix up the sounds, then move on to the bass etc.

Most of your tweaking is done continuously anyway I find.

i don't make a lot of dubstep. i like making silly music.
although, if you listen to 'backwards' on the flip of '9 samurai' its got a theme park music bassline...put it on 45 and it becomes a lot more apparant

Recently been chopping up house and garage vocals and assigning the different random bits to the keyboard, a LOT of fun.

Tried it with an old nina simone accapella, pitched it up and it sounded wicked.
