Re: Dubstep>>>>>Grime
Im from NZ and hav been following dubsteps rise here as close as i possibly. Here there never really was a grime scene so it has been more of a progression from other dance scenes (mainly drum and bass) to dubstep. Im not sure the drum and bass scene is very large in the UK, mainly the producers from there that make it large now do so overseas.bassface wrote: To cut an essay short i beleive a lott of Dubsteppers came from the Grime scene and imo has over passed Grime and even DnB as the most solid underground genre alive from when Skream, Plastician etc get bookings in Asia, Oz, NZ its alot. I don't see Wiley, Stryder ETC on that ting even though i must admit some grime man are on paper at the mo.
Was a a big drum and bass scene here now but ive recently got put off the new shit thats coming out because ive been more into dubstep and the whole dnb scenes got too hardcore and techy for me. and the rave scenes just a mash fest for the masses.
as far as grime raves here go we've had next to none. and im personnaly gutted about that as i love grime and was lucky enough to see a 17 youth called Koder Kid from the UK tearin up the mic over some local dubstep DJ's. me and my friends were fucking amazed and said we wish we could see more like that here. who knows why we dont. but im just chattin breeze...

I forgot to mention...
Just saw Plastician last weekend and i still have an ugly bass face..
been an epic year here for dubstep, weve had
Loefah
Tes la Rok
Cotti
Zed Bias
Distance
Ntype
Chef
forgetting sum.... and looking foward to heavily shitty bass pants over new years eve to Skream and Benga! each and every has been holding it down large for the dubstep scene with local mcs getting thier grime flex on. mash it all together i say. big ups keep. coming over!

Famous? Not Grime. Including production from Plastician, Maniac, Wiley, JME, Virgo and Grime Reaper. Seen.... Last song JME had out was JuJu riddim, also produced by Wiley, also Grime.bassface wrote:Ite kool not looking for an e-war but im not saying to be good u have to be undeground as that will get you no-where. Ive got famous the jme mixtape, album woteva u wna call it and imo its not grime. just my opnion jme from 2004>>>>>>>>>jme now.Piston wrote:we have stryda vs maniac in zavvi (im a manager there) and dot rotten also....bassface wrote:Bruv it can be argued that is any of the mc's u just said doing grime imo NOOOO. I don't want 2 buy grime from hmv and zavvi thats what uptown is for and u can get plenty a dubstep cd from there if thts what u wnt. if i wnt a real grime cd i will reach for uptown or maybe jus lock in 2 radio coz hmv and zavvi 'grime' is what the mainstream wants to hear and do they sell do they fuck.Piston wrote:why do people need to be so obsessed with labelling everything?
there is still music from genres supposedly dead 10 years ago and this iss because music never dies.....if grime has died why can you get jme, skepta, kano, wiley, dizzee, tinchy, roll deep & others on the high street in zavvi & hmv yet you cant get loads of dubstep still unless more often than not its backed up by tempa....
and why does westwoods show have regular grime artists participating like chipmunk, durrty goodz & bashy???
kids are dumb thats all i agree with but tbh i was dumb when that age and tought listening to somee truly gash choons made me cool...
wiley new ting didnt make top 40 says it all. now if they made music for grime heads tht wud b great but they dont. The only grime i will listen 2 is podcasts and radio as it seems thats the only real grime i will hear not sum half arsed electro grime album from wiley in hmv id rather give my money away. and westwoods show is a joke imo who wnts to lock in2 bashy kissing westwoods arse or jammer an skepta sprayin 2 year old bars. logan sama>>>>>>>>>>>>westwood the real grime is being dunn by ppl like cold blooded, slew dem, og's, dot rotten etc who arnt interested in commerch sucess at least for the time being. Bet u wnt see are you dumb 4 in hmv or stryda vs maniac.
there aint no zavvi conspiracy on what to stock its to do with distribution issues...
but fair play im no grime expert and you clearly know more than me...
why exactly do you think jme isnt making grime just out of interest?
does it need to be 'underground' to be good because if thats how you look at it you can see whatever you want....
its very tough to book grime as a promoter i can tell you as the venues are often reluctant to allow you this and the risk assessment that goes to the police can mean even booking someone with a vague connection to grime is almost impossible...that would explain the events thing...
do you think durrty goodz is shit as well?
Durrty Goodz is good but what has he done since axiom ep fuck all a small set at a sidewinder event mainly for exposing shitty bassline.
In response to the mc booking thing i read on the sidewinder official page that mc's were getting hard to book because they are demanding to much money these days. They have a bit of sucess with a novelty tune, the rolex tunes springs to mind, and get big headed and think they are super stars. I have a friend in Swindon who wnted to book Stryda i think it was and his agent basically said that Stryda would do a p.a for extorshonate money, cant remember figures, and that was basically it.
I hink it all started to go pear shaped when the BBK band wagon amongst people that don't really understand grime started. I have my little sister rolling about in a BBK tee but can she name any other memba of the crew apart from skepta and jme? NO.
I'm all for grime, not for bait hip hop mixtapes, bandwagon followers, electro grime, poor offerings from the so called top boys, ie wiley etc and grime for the mainstream which seems to be coming out all the time.
I prefer the shoddy productions, the shouting and screaming down the mic, clashing, mc's who dont care what there being payed as long as there on this ting, basically grime 2003-2004 the glory days.
As you say grime may bot be dead as ppl said grage was dead but yet EZ still gets bookings etc but its not alive if that makes sense.
The best Grime songs weren't made in 2003, 2004 trust me.

i remember just thinking dubstep was like a different sub-type of 'grime' or 'uk g' when all these genres were gettin their names (pple were callin it 8 bar etc). i don't really listen to grime much ne more cos i don't c many vinyls out n find it too much about the mc wit negative lyrics.
gotta say the grime scene seems to have 'lost its spark' while dubstep is growing daily imo. but think dubstep is easier for loads of different pple to listen to (rich/poor/black/white/asian) whereas grime has this rep of being really ghetto which puts pple that have got into dubstep later on off.
loved grime back in the day, saw wiley n tinchy stryder play in 2003, still one of the best raves i can remember! shame it's got like this, but grimey dubstep is sick still
all this is just my opinion btw feel like bustin 'snowman' by wiley now lol. lot of interesting comments in this thread tho. personally agree the productions lost that raw edge...

thats juss some of the good grime from this year.
the only thing i have to add to this thread, aside from the fact that i love grime and definitely don't think its dead, is that jme's recent output (famous + juju riddim) comprises some of the worst, most cringeworthily bad music i have ever heard. it actually infuriates me how bad he is.
"this is jme
for your sacrifice
bring my kfc
and a small large fries"
what. the. fuck. even him just constantly repeating his fucking serious bars would have been better than that shite. don't even get me started on power. it sounds like he's had a stroke and is now unable to say more than 15 words a minute, especially if he wants any of them to rhyme.
on the other hand, if generally speaking, born blessed, grimewave 2, and soulfood 4 all come next year it'll probably be one of the best year's grime has had so far.

I don't work for the sunday papers. I'm a hip hop producer, and I've worked with many artists and DJs from various dubstep, grime, UKHH, ragga and garage backgrounds and to be honest I know it's a stereotype that we could do without, but that's my experience of it.bassface wrote:NOOOOOOOOO, u work for the BBC or sum long derkhead sunday paper. Not being funny but if they didnt care about the music i dunt think they would spend time and money for studio hours, mixtapes etc etc etc could go on all day. Some man in grime even go near eniugh bankrupt doing there ting in the studio. But on the other hand u have got the few who are badman roadman's in an out of jail every 2 mins, Chronik springs to mind, but half the time there the 1'z putting out crap anyway.gchrist wrote:The dubstep scene is run by producers and djs that care about music. The grime scene is run by shady roadmen with bad attitudes and fitted caps. That's why grime's getting people nowhere but into knife fights and kebab shop robberies.
Read Butturz blog for an insight in2 grime b4 making dumb comments like that. What your saying is on a par with all muslims are terrorists, white men can't dance, jews only care about money etc etc all not true i beleive.
Grime cats are often IDIOTS. Not always but OFTEN.
