UK DUB --> DUBSTEP

Post by vanguard » Tue Dec 23, 2008 2:15 pm

Blessings all
i have a radio show to start soon and usually play straight up uk dub, which dubstep tunes are closet to this as were doin a special on it, i dont mean tunes that have a 'reggae' or rasta sample but ones that are actually similar to uk dub, fast steppers tunes
currently i have
Rusko - Hornz Cru
Rusko - Jah Love
Kulture - Steppin'

much love
V

Get some Coki and Truth in there, I've heard a few tunes and it's sick.

Not trying to sound nasty or anything, but is it really worth doing a radio show about an area of music you don't really know anything about? :|
Id say spend a while checking out the sound first!

If thats what you were planning on starting with this thread then fair play then I spose :D

My top suggestions would be...
Pinch - Underwater Dancehall (album)
Boxcutter - Glyphic (album)
Anything by RSD

But my sister just arrived. will probably add more later
Saturday nights 7-9pm GMT - Wiggle Baron @ SubFM!

Electronic Explorations 035
Deeper Mix
Bad Mood Dub

Backyard Movements label and anything put out by the Disciples' Russ D. is absolutely crucial stuff if you're into this

the Bad Influence ep is definitly steppers material too. Kromestar has tons of straight up dubs he's done by himself too. There's a good one with some guitar on it on the Hungry Bully ep.

The two tracks Cauto has out on Dutty Artz are more inna digi-junglist styling but I rate those highly...

Rogue State has a tune called 'bounce step' that is bonkers. Amoungst his other shit which is just bonkers in more versatile ways.

Dutch Flowers might be the anthem tune for this particular sound - quick stepper business.

yeah rogue is HIGHLY underrated.. some of the cleanest productions coming from that man, he's a wizard!

and seriously tho, that Backyard Movements Dubwise LP is the truth but it's very hard to find - still looking for it myself  but its heavy heavy.

Some other stuff:

The Moody Boyz! have a sick 12" that remixes that Milk and Honey tune

Helixer has a tune on the 7even label called Narkotic Dub that is a brutally spacious 4x4 skank out.

Hyperdub has some bits too. 'CCTV' 12" and the 'Globetrotting' 12"

also not really dubstep or UK steppers but I collect everything Disrupt does too.

there's this old Augustus Pablo digi dub 7" I copped that mixes well with my dubstep bits, tune is called 'blacka black'

I'll get back to you when I can remember what else I have knocking around the crates, heavily into this straight up dub sound.
