Pretty much - its to make sure everything is in time really more than anything. Just practice loads - get the feel for the vinyl as well, I am no big DJ - I still 'ave a bit of trouble with this not using decks I am used too.
Also get a a couple tunes you know go well - or even buy a vinyl you know your mate has and ask to borrow his and mix in and out of the same tune - its the easiest way to get to know counting and it'll teach you about learning the tune to be able to mix it well - although a lot of dubstep has a simliar bar structure so I guess you'll just have to get timing and counting right.

lol

I wouldn't bother wasting money on tunes you arent wanting to play-you are going to have to learn how to count 140 bpm in your head if you want to spin dubstep.
You Tub tutorials are your friend, man. Is how I have learned almost every piece of software and picked up COUNTLESS tips by just browsing ye olde You Tube for useful videos!
I was "self taught" beatmatching and I swear I was just wasting time until I was 16 because I didnt have any friends that knew shit, and this was before youtube-this was dial-up days haha.
Cheers, hope that helps
Beatmatching, and phrasing. Cannot stress this enough...
