Skream - Genius or Overrated

He's done a lot of stuff I don't like, and a lot of stuff I do like. He's done a lot of stuff in general. The stuff I do like I generally love, and the stuff I don't like is generally tolerable. I also enjoy his lairy DJing manner.

I hope someone says "overrated" so I can watch the fireworks.

i love his naive enthusiasm when he finds a new filter and rinses it or manages a nifty chord progression...

...bet he was drooling all over his keyboard for days when he discovered the arpeggiator

him and benga basically created the scene and he helped shaped the sound of dubstep, so i wumdnt call him overrated

he's a hardworking, dedicated, and grounded
as an artist he's creative, progressive, aware, and has natural talent but also seems to recognize the need for developed skill within production. It shows in his music & all these things seem to apply within' his views of music[from any interview I'v read/seen/heard]. Makes quality tunes for the most part and he's also a skilled DJ.
I don't feel he is overrated at all, he has the recognition he deserves IMO.

I was just discussing the man's work with someone earlier tonight. I realize his work is considered seminal and whatnot but his sense of melody just does not even remotely resonate with me.

Out of curiosity, who do you think was more important to the birth of the genre, Kode9, or Skream?

I apologize if it's a retarded question, I don't know many people irl who have informed opinions about this stuff.

i wouldn't say one is more important than the other. respect both immensely. also the birth of the genre is a tricky one because it had about a 5 year incubation period from 2000 to 2005 before everything got crazy.

Yeah ofcourse some skream tunes are very simple,.. take for example filth, it's got like a synth, a bass, a hi hat, a snare, a kick.. that's about it. I think there's hardly anyone in the scene out there that can make a tune that catchy with only using those basic elements.. think about simple city, simple as fuck indeed, but the idea is brilliant.. Big up skream, genius for sure!

all that and he's not even 25 yet FFS!!! that's not even talking about his remixes or mixing. dnb people love to gun him down more and more, but thats to be expected isn't it. i'd like to see people name me somebody else in underground music that's had their own tunes out on 12" before their 18th birthday?
