Post by joey snack » Wed Dec 31, 2008 1:53 am

im unable to use use my decks for a while and have just downloaded serato scratch for my mac.

i was told i could just download the software and play about mixing mp3's?

is this possible or do you have to use hardware with it eg cdj's or tt's?

Yeah it's possible. Just use internal mode and you don't need decks. Check page 12 of the manual for more info: http://www.rane.com/pdf/sslman18.pdf

I have the same issue, maybe we can't get into "internal" mode without having the Serato box?

It's not that I really want to DJ on my computer. I use Serato to play out, but I don’t have a box. I just want to get a set ready before hand. If I do it in Serato I can transfer the que pointes and all.

without the box connected you can only play one track at a time in serato, basically like itunes.

there is no way to actually mix within the software without having the serato box.

dunno about serato but with torq, deckadance and most other software you can set the control to internal and use the crossfader in the middle. its fucking boring though, get some time encoded vinyl

even with the serato box, the interface (in my opinion) would not be optimal to mix in. it would probably be better to go with virtual dj or something along those lines (not too sure what to suggest as i've got no experience with those programs).

serato is great for what it does, its just not really designed to be virtual mixing software, although it is possible.

yeah, serato needs the hardware to be usable... without its just a media player really...

and it was designed as vinyl emulation, so although its possible without decks to mix, its not that fun

you still need a mixer and the box either way with serato
