As far as if it is dubstep.... I have no idea what dubstep is supposed to be. I like the stuff like this more than the stuff I think most people associate with the dubstep genre. This could be played in a wide range of sets, so, I think you could really call it whatever you want.
As far as comments, have you tried laying some strings on top of this? Like some really warm strings... might be worth a try to see if you get something you dig. Or even some speaking samples? Just some possibilities to try and see how it sounds...

yeah i tried to focus mainly on the drums and just let the melody ride in the background and set a mood
but i didn't think about strings and that's actually a really good idea, might have to mess around with that later
