ZOMBY in the NME!

Post by ramprecordings » Fri Jan 09, 2009 5:56 pm

Take undead rave revivalist Zomby. If you'd never had the misfortune of hearing Hadouken!, you might have imagined new rave sounded something like Zomby's music: videogame belches and slasher move synth stabs welded to shuddering dubstep basslines and tartrazine beats informed by everything from crunk to kuduro. His nostalgia for a golden era of reckless electro hybrids manifests itself in his gloriously schizoid musical output. Like his equally reclusive labelmate Burial, masked man Zomby's not interested in playing the star, but his music fizzes with personality.

Didn't NME used to bum Hadouken? And, in fact, probably help to spawn them by giving so much space and publicity to that pitifully awful 'grindie' 'scene'? Not that I'm saying I'm surprised about 21st century NME flip-flopping over trends and artists.

Zomby is one of my favorite artists ever in any style of anything.

Too bad he got banned from dubstepforum.

I feel the time is now ripe to disassociate myself with dubstep.

Also, Zomby posts here as trailofdead... Wonder if it's any homage to the band? ;o

Wait, the NME readership know what kuduro is?
