BIG BUMP HERE! i've decided to spend the morning registering my tunes with ascap. american producers should do this too. I think even last.fm is paying licensing fees now, not sure if this is right, but does anyone know if artists get paid for internet plays?

Internet radio stations should support the artists and pay licensing fees as well. This music wouldn't be music, if it wasn't for the people producing it - obviously.

so... anyone know the current state of royalties in the dubstep world? do club owners care? do any internet stations send PRS/ASCAP their cue sheets?

There's no laws governing royalty payments for internet distribution-- on actual radio, royalties are paid out of the license fees that the FCC levies on stations to use FM radio waves.

Last FM and youtube will pay royalties after a certain # of listens/viewings, but it's very little.

w/ that said, the BBC keeps great records and PRS collects on ASCAP's behalf. If you get a spin on radio 1, you WILL get paid!

very very valuable information. thanks sir! Registering my tunes now. I've found a lot of my tunes on last.fm, though i haven't actually put up any on there myself. Some of them are spelled wrong too, which is alarming but i suppose kind of flattering. Someone thinks it's worth their time to put my shit up there illegally.
