How did you get into dubstep?

I heard a few tunes being played here and there at the end of 05 then I went to Yardcore at some point in early 06 and heard how it should sound on a meaty rig and been hooked since.

I'm a dnb head an I got my hands on a copy of skream - midnight requestline (zinc remix) a few years back, loved it, then checked out a few tunes from the sound but didnt really get to into it, then last year went to a night with a few dubstep dj's on, one of them being mala, guy killed it, best set of the night by far, few months later thought fuck it an blew £100 on my first dubstep records, and been buying them ever since.

Went round a mates who spins breaks usually but he stuck on this plate (destpub, monsta if i remember rightly) and i loved the sound and looked into it more from then.

A couple of mates told me about dubstep around jan 2007 and said to check it out, first heard Kode 9 and DMZ a liked what I heard, took me another 6 odd months to get properly into it, an N-type set and fwd at the end is what done it though. Since then been listening to alot of different sounds from the scene.

Massive sub + Loefah remix of Skream - I

Think it was a cheeky clip recorded off his myspace page sent over to us as an example of Dubstep from my mate's older brother. Was hooked from then on.

first heard the Zinc remix of Midnight Request Line on a Bingo podcast way back ... and a Geeneus mix on a later one. hooked since.

i was mainly a grime head and hadnt really heard much dubstep until a few of us from manchester (subliminal, messiah , omen , sno and meself ) went on a road trip down to dmz wen it was in the smaller room down stairs , think it was about september 0f 2005 at first we met up with a few peeps in croydon ( plastician , skream ,n-type, distinction ,shy and joe nice ) and jus fell in love with it straight away

absolutely loved the bass rattling my chest and the vibe in the place was unreal and jus couldnt believe how friendly every1 was lol even the djs wen peeps were jus leanin over to pull up tunes wenever they felt AMAZING !!

and the rest they say lol is history

I definately did not download any tunes or sets off soulseek for a couple of years before starting to buy tunes and go to fwd. I went to DMZ once before that apparently but was ejected for being a reprobate. I'm recovered now.

hahaha that's pretty much me in a nutshell, between that zinc remix and seeing mala!

that and the fact that dubstep doesn't quite seem to fuck my aged raver joints up as much as dnb does these days... it's also an unxpected pleasure being able to dive into a genre you know fuck all about as well - i'm a pretty bloody full on jungle nerd and it's a nice feeling to have a lot of new stuff to discover!

I've been listening to jungle and dnb since I was about 12
found a bunch of other shit pretty much through jungle if I remember correctly.

some how stumbled upon dubstep sometime.

I heard some Rossi B & Luca tune, and a bunch of Loefah and DMZ.

found more on my own and I was hooooked.

Dubstep Warz

I first heard it live in work on a crappy little radio and thought it was ok. Went up my mates yard a couple of days later for a smoke and he was like check this music out the bass is sick heard malas mix again and was totally blown away. Now dubstep is proberly my favourtie music genre.

i had been djing for years (dnb,minimal house,idm,hip hop,garage,dancehall) and was pretty bored with alot of the music coming out until i heard grime and got really excited,started a grime weekly which went on for a year,during that time i heard the pressure album by the bug,got more excited and then i heard the grime comps and was like oh ho really,this isn't grime but i like it,what else is goin on with this...went to london 3 years running and came back with piles and piles of wax,got hooked. the first real dubstep records i got were vex'd- lion/ghost and dmz-da wrath which is probs my fav tune of all time,why are there not more tunes like that?

Like a few people on here my first intro to to dubstep was through the mighty Jah Peel.Late in 03' he dropped a Bug Vs Soundmurderer live set which piqued my interest in heavy bass music.Then in spring 04' he started rinsing out Kode9&Daddy Gee - Sign of the Dub and that was it for me.God I owe that man so much musically,gone but not forgotten.

mine was - the always on top fact magazine - did a little article on this sound that was happenin down south on digital mystikz .... sounded like it would be wicked - got hold of pathways or whatever that big apple ep was - and was impressed! i think that might have quickly been followed up with the grime lp .... then i knew it was happenin ....
