crazy myspace kid: afx lost twin? secret squarepusher bro?

Post by hookey » Thu Jan 15, 2009 5:11 pm

www.myspace.com/steinvord

So i've seen this posted around on planet mu for a while now and still no clear info on the author of these tracks. There is that talking about this being a known name playing around like AFx or Tom but I think this is just a talented kid. after listening for a while with proper headphones it has a sound that doesnt exactly sound like these artists. Some tracks do, but others like this track that was deleted from the myspace sounds very fresh to me:

If the author is only 18yo and already puts this kind of stuff out is pretty sick imo. From my experience with eletronic music you really need time to delevop until reaching such complex fine edits, like that maelstorm track...

just wondering if someone here knows the dude and can ask him if he will release his stuff someday.

Very interesting... you can definitely tell it is Aphex inspired, but it varies quite a bit from Richard's signature style. It could just be some kid with wicked talent, then again maybe not.

Also, check this out... saw it on planet mu also:

I have no clue when we'll see some more Aphex material, but it can't come soon enough!

you can hear breaks/effects which seem as though they were lifted directly from squarepusher's my red hot car/the opening tracks on go plastic

untitled97 sounds the most rdj to me

but yea..compare maelstorm to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hrma8pXhcCs -

Whats your point comparing mangle 11 with maelstrom? They are totally different tracks besides the amen break being used.

Props to Steinvord.

There's obviously been a decent amount of work and effort put into those tunes. The edit's are rolling, for a start.

Sounds really good.

wow, I forgot I posted about this a long time ago. Finally after 2 years, look at what news I stumbled upon:
Posted by Grant on facebook:

soon-to-be releases to cue in your playlist:
dave monolith 'welcome' cd
jodey kendrick 'plus ten' (part 2) 2cd
aleksi perälä 'mental union' (part 2) 2cd
steinvord 12" EP
all on rephlex records of course http://www.rephlex.com
more for 2012...
The guy was signed to Aphex Twin's record label (Rephlex) and apparently a release is happening soon.

saw it posted on WATMM. It seems is avalaible for pre-release already in some sites like bonkat or RT:

http://www.roughtrade.com/site/shop_det ... sku=346008#
rephlex knows virtually nothing about this artist. they discovered him via internet forum rumours a couple of years ago. all his communication has been very sporadic and unusual. they know his name but are not allowed to disclose it. all they can say about his location is europe. they think he probably makes music using a computer but they're not sure. they don't think he's released anything before. but the kids love it! and so do we. one might say that it has elements of electroacoustic sound sculpture colliding with fierce drum and bass rhythms but this wouldn't really be describing it too well. it's atmospheric future music, available on retro vinyl only for the foreseeable. but more work is expected in 2012.
totally looking forward to this.. im getting kinda saturated from dubstep so this will be great.
