You can use the technology card up to a point. But the minute start to use auto-mixing things (and even try to justify them as being the new thing!) you become an epic, sinking failboat.

Maybe if your name Disco Dave and you want to mix the last 4 bars off Fedde Le Grand into Mylo, but not for real deeshays. Ya dig?

Yeah not a virgin though so feel i can make that comparison.

It's just the physical feel for me, not used serato or traktor and would be down with them i reckon, i just like owning the vinyl for one.

But Serato feels exactly like vinyl. Only instead of ruffling through a big, messy bag of records - taking them out of their paper sleeves, sometimes out of an external cardboard sleeve too, and returning the one you just played into its case (which, if you're playing out, tends not to happen as you dont have the luxury of that kind of time) - you just choose a tune on your laptop.

And you don't have to explain wanting to "own the vinyl". I used to be a massive vinyl whore, have about 3000 left now, and I'm sure I can shift between 10-15 of em for about £100. And about 100 of them for half of that. Rare shit. Spent years looking for some.

But then I started playing on radio and carrying two record bags half way across of London was incredibly stupid and I'd be knackered by the time I got there. Same goes for playing up.

Not to sound demeaning, but start DJing outside your bedroom and you'll understand why vinyl just isn't it. (Unless you can afford £8 a pop on records like it was nothing to you, and even someone to carry your record bags. Then go for it.)

Spend most of my money on records and weed. Have knocked the weed on the head for the time being so I can concentrate on buying more. However, I'm not one who enjoys shopping and money is there to be spent so I consider it to be ok. I find people who spend all their money on clothes to be weirder tbh

same as me pretty much. wish i could save a bit of money and get out of my overdraft but the lure of black plastic usually proves too much for me. at least vinyl isn't made possible in children in sweat shops - i'm claiming the moral high ground over clothes buyers here

Indeed. I think the only dodgy moral link could be to recycled plastic maybe? But compared to the roots of clothes, food and drugs its not too bad.

i used to think that. i don't keep my tunes in good condition though, when i play live i don't normally bother putting things back in their sleeves.

my copy of dead prez - hip hop was face down in the mud at one of my parties a few years ago. still sounds sweet though!

..I find that when I am mixing everyday..I need a minimum of about 5 new tracks a week..More like 10 every 2 weeks through the mail right - save on shipping...

but I will also say that I found a direct link from the number of records I buy to the quality of my mixes - the more records I have, the better and more complete a job I can do in so far as sorting - and sorting/selection is a huge part of getting really excellent mixes..

tune A and tune E may both be great tunes - but if you don't have b-d that mix may be a little rough...

I say this and yet I don't even spin beyond my room ..

Movies
Music
Weed
Books
Concerts/raves

If I spend more money on weed then on records things get kind of out of balance. I find MP3's boring.

That's exactly what I have found to. The excitement of finding a relatively unknown track on MP3 is so miniscule when compared to getting yourself a real hard copy on vinyl.
